Anyone need grocery deliveries between Staunton and Buchanan?
Hi all. I've finally managed to come up with some reasonable cold-weather gear for my little 50cc scooter. After this week I'll be working half-days and will have afternoons to myself. The scooter gets 80 miles to the gallon, which means that I can deliver stuff to folks for pretty much no charge.

I regularly ride the 35 miles between Lexington and Staunton and back, usually at night, and it's been cold as hell since October. So at this point I think I can deliver small orders to most of Rockbridge County and a good chunk of Augusta.

I know that small convenience stores have been dying off quickly around these parts, like that little place in Effinger. And even though gas is cheap, I suspect a lot of people have had to make tough choices about continuing car insurance and registrations, and making repairs.

What I'm offering to do is pick up groceries or other things that you have already ordered, and deliver them to your home or place of work--if you're still lucky enough to be working. Maybe you know someone who needs help but you do not have the time to get away to pick up the things they need. Maybe you have plenty of stuff at home but can't get it to a friend somewhere else. Maybe you have presents you wish to deliver. I'd like to keep this strictly need-based. And strictly non-partisan, too.

Right now I'd just like to see if anyone has an interest in such a thing. There are plenty of things I can't do, like buy groceries for people or carry items or orders too large to fit in two milk-crates (no television deliveries!). I probably can't pick up prescriptions. And, I can't ride in freezing rain or snow. But my little bike handles gravel roads okay and I can use a map pretty well. I know it's not much, but I'd like to help if I can.

Please let me know here if anyone is interested.

1. What a nice offer!! I don't need the assistance because I'm not
in that area, but I have a suggestion. Perhaps post this offer on store bulletin boards or church bulletins?

You're a sweetheart for doing this.

3. That's just what I'm going to do!
Ideally, I'll be able to dovetail it with my fishing addiction, come summertime, so it's not perfectly altruistic.

2. What a kind offer Sofa King! I bet that community service groups can help you connect with folks
in need. I bet there are a lot of seniors on fixed income for whom this service could be a life saver!

What a lovely idea!
