I know this can be hard for some of us to swallow - he's a convert from the GOP, he tends to shoot off his mouth sometimes - but at least he has a chance to get elected in VA. And any Democrat will be better for Va. (for the U.S.!) than that nincompoop George Allen.

3. When the New Republic piece came out last month
pulling the KKK sheets off of George Allen, Webb's response was that the article hit "below the belt."

I hope Webb wakes up soon to the fact that the repukes will pull out all the stops to win this one. If it means wallowing in mud up to their asses, they'll do it gleefully.

Truth is Allen has a very unsavory past going all the way back to his high school days when he spraypainted racist graffiti to stir up racial tension on campus. Later he kept a noose in his law office. He's a phony Southerner, born and raised in California and Illinois. His sister wrote a book detailing the physical abuse he heaped on his siblings including throwing one through a glass door. He has a messy divorce in his past with still sealed records.

Allen will go after Webb with considerable financial resources and the full backing of the repuke party. Webb needs to trash Allen not only on his sorry record as a rubber stamp for the Bush Crime Family, but also on his personal history. He has to cut out the nicey-nice crap about attacks on Allen being "below the belt" and get out there and shove Allen's face in his past and make him own it. There is no other way to win this thing.

4. Webb is symbolic of the future of the Democratic party
While he may not agree with the national platform on every issue, and you may not agree with him on every issue, he IS a Democrat, he will work hard for Virginians and he will bring back voters to the party.

nasty campaign methinks.

6. There's alot of Webb bashing on DU
Wonder what's up with that? You'd think DUers would be happy bringing the Reagan
Dems "home" :D

Since when does voting Republican MAKE you a Republican? I've done it, and I'm about as bleeding heart liberal as you can get!

7. I'm the first to say he was a former Republican.
As much as I refer to him as a former Republican he's not really a Democrat or Republican. Around 94 he supported Robb, by 2000 he switched to support Allen. Then he switched again in 04/05 by supporting Kerry, and Kaine. He's pretty much a definition of independent. Which is why I have no faith that he'll be a Democrat past the November election no matter the results. I only read that he supported Kerry and Kaine from the last debate transcript.

That's a valid concern looking at his record or what little I know of his record. Of course as a Webb supporter it's your right to see that as bashing him.

8. yeah Rogue
"He's pretty much a definition of independent."

I hear ya man, he may be more of a Ben Nelson than a Paul Wellstone but you should work hard for a Web victory for 2 reasons - 1) He will caucus with the Dems and 2) He cant be worse than Allen.

I think once you study his stance on the income gap divide, outsourcing, government intrusion, etc you will see he is more progressive than many of our "liberal" Democrats. I am a member of the loony left and I would be perfectly happy to have James Webb represent Virginia.

9. Webb narrows Allen's lead
Edited on Sun Jun-18-06 09:50 AM by Lasher
Jim Webb, coming off Tuesday’s primary win, narrowed George Allen’s lead to just 10 points, 51% - 41% in a new Rasmussen poll. Allen led Webb by 20-points, (50-30) in late April.

Edit: Inspired by this great news, I just added VA to the list of competitive US Senate races:

Go, Virginia Democrats! Just 11 more points between now and November and you will have pulled off a huge upset!

12. Great News!
I see that Va's race has been upgraded to "competitive" whereas it wasn't before.

13. That's right, I just added VA to the competitive list
I've been investing some time in the list of Senate races, but I have no particular authority over it. Like the rest of the Research Forum, anyone can jump in.

14. I have a question
and I put this to his campaign as well. Will he be coordinating with local Dems running for House seats? We have a really good candidate in the 11th District, Andrew Hurst, and I am working on his campaign now, will Webb be coordinating with local area districts? The 8th is a long time Democratic District with Jim Moran, but we have to run Andy against the odius incumbent, Tom Davis. Does anyone know if this is going to be a coordinated effort?

15. I'm Not Sure Which Way It Works
Jim Nachman who is running for Congress in the 7th district is trying to tie up with Webb. Maybe Hurst needs to make the first move?
