1. Thanks for putting this on, Bamalefty!
What a pleasure to see Eastern Shore and Tidewater thumbing their noses at the BFEE, along with my county (Henrico). One little note of concern though - both Chesterfield and Hanover (major suburban areas south and north of Richmond) went red, sorry to say. And those are very rapidly growing areas.

This map is really interesting - it brings home just how big the geography of VA is - many of those red areas are extremely sparsely populated. In fact, huge chunks of them are national forests!!

2. Nice map
I colored in my Virginia map a few days ago. Most of my maps from years past have the colors reversed. I swear tv stations used to have it that way until the 2000 election, but I could be wrong.

I'm a Virginia native. My roots there run very deep, but I've been living in North Carolina for about six yeays now. The trend up that way seems to be that Republicans are becoming stronger in the rural areas and the outer most suburbs, while Democrats are extending their influence beyond the urban areas to the inner suburbs, with the most notable examples being Fairfax and Henrico counties. Because of this, I suspect that in ten years Virginia will be much more competitive for Democrats on the national level.

At any rate, it is great to see that Kaine is governor elect!
