Dear Friend,

I hope this message finds you well and in good spirits. I continue to be grateful for your generosity and support during my 2004 campaign and I always enjoy an opportunity to say thank you again.

Since November, I have focused my energy and resources on Lieutenant Governor Tim Kaine's campaign for governor and the strong candidates on the ballot with him. I will do everything I can to help make sure he succeeds Mark Warner as governor.

However, while we will continue to have a strong governor, Virginia's 2nd District will continue to lack a representative with the vision and values we need to move forward. Therefore, I want you to be among the first to know that I have decided to run again for Congress in the November 2006 election.

I ask that you think of how proud you were of the issues and actions of our campaign. And, I ask that you think of the dismay that my opponent's supporters felt when their efforts were used for missteps and low-roads.

The news, the events, the thrills, the pride and the many things that made you want to be a part of this campaign are coming. My dedication to you and to Virginia's critical issues has never stopped, my door-knocking, fundraising and hard work have begun again and I will not stop until we win in November 2006.

Thank you again for your friendship and support.

Semper Fidelis

David Ashe

2. We just got electronic voting machines here in Richmond, and
the City went for Kerry. I worry about the same thing (no paper trail). That's really cool your daughter worked on his campaign. He's a cool dude; thanks for supporting him. :)

3. I'm so glad!
As soon as the previous Rep left the House for his full tilt hypocrisy, I sent Ashe a contribution. He managed to defeat the Republican candidate they put up at the last minute and it was such a delight. I hope he's on the road to another success!

5. He totally should have won this last time; perhaps w/ all that's
going on, the time will be ripe for Drake to be unseated...along w/ a boatload of other Repukes. Feh!

7. No, unfortunately not. Had he won, he would have been
the only Iraq vet in Congress.

So they voted for a last minute candidate. Will they never learn. Thanks for the clarification.

9. Sure. Seemed they voted party line (VA Beach...lots of Repukes,
though their mayor is a Dem).

12. I just got his email too...
...and ran right over here to post it too, so glad the good news is already here :) I'm thrilled David's running again!

As I recall Thelma ran a really nasty Rovian campaign against him...otherwise there was absolutely nothing she ran on that would make people WANT to vote for her. I know she was a state delegate, but I never heard of her before that last minute replacement for Schrock, along with tons of GOP money to run her smear ads.

I sent him a donation last time, but this time I'll have my boots on the ground.

13. I just received the email...
glad that he is running again. I donated to his campaign and will work for him in 2006. I worked for Kerry in 2004 and couldn't find time to devote to both, but I will be there next year. Drake needs to go "big time." She is truly awful and really doesn't give a good God damn about the 2nd District. When I emailed her about Delay, her response was that he had not been found guilty of anything, so we should just back off. She defended this piece of garbage to the hilt. I just hope that enough Repubs in this area are fed up and are willing to take another look at David Ashe.

14. I know David will be happy to have you work for his campaign.
I'm not in his district (I'm in Richmond), but support his efforts 110%.

That totally blows how Drake responded. Typical though. Seems Republicans (at least most of them to me) value party before country these days. Pretty pathetic.
