Charles Kimball running for Salt Lake County Party Chair

Hope is the greatest of legacies. It is the greatest legacy that we tend and it is the greatest legacy that we may extend. My involvement with the Salt Lake County Executive Committee over the past three years has taught me much about hope. I have seen it in the eyes of candidates as they embark on a noble journey. I have heard it from those who wish to give voice to reason and understanding. I have spoken of it to many of you by telling you a better day is coming for the Democratic Party if we have the courage to embrace it. And I speak of it now. It is with humility, honor and purpose that I announce my candidacy for Chair of the Salt Lake Democratic Party.

We're called the minority party here in Utah. We are told that our values are not the majority population's values and we are out of step with our constituents. I say hog wash! At every meeting I attend, we are the majority party, not simply because we are all democrats, but because our beliefs are what most people hold as their core values. And what are our beliefs?

As democrats, we believe in tolerance. It is a fundamental pillar of our party. Let's talk about it. As Chair, I will initiate that conversation. As democrats, we believe in fairness. Fairness for all, from the small business owner who wishes to provide health care, but not as the expense of his company's viability, to each of us who constantly scream “let us show you what good government can do.” As Chair, I shall be diligent in my pursuit of fairness. As democrats, we believe in goodness. As neighbors and as friends, we must let our compassion example our strengths by being good community leaders. It is at this level that we can make inroads. We must build the Democratic Party one community at a time. Hence my slogan, “Building the party one community at a time.”
