This is a DEMOCRAT??!!
Edited on Wed Mar-16-11 11:41 AM by thanks_imjustlurking
Or even a sane person?!

In a wide-ranging interview with the Current last Friday, Bexar County Democratic Party Chair Dan Ramos likened homosexuals to children stricken with polio and the Stonewall Democrats, an organization working to advance the rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals, to the Nazi Party.

In immediate response, State Democratic Party Chair Boyd Richie called on Ramos to resign his post. Texas Stonewall Democrats called on him to apologize or resign. And Bexar County Young Democrats urged him to apologize and resign “for his profane display of bigotry.”

OMG -

What it is, is we have a very, very sinister movement in which you don’t know, at the end of the day, you didn’t even know that your next door buddy, your bosom fishing buddy was gay. That, I guess, goes to my belief in the religious thing

Words fail me.

2. Plenty of good Democrats asking for his resignation
He is a homophobe, because he was raised that way probably. Unfortunately this type of hate is way too common in Latino/Hispanic communities. It's really sad. :(

And of course there is one particular church that does nothing to stop this kind of hate.

3. A Bigot in Bexar
Texas Observer 3/15/11
A Bigot in Bexar

Let’s admit it: We pretty much know what to expect when we hear that the chairman of a local political party in Texas has publicly equated gay people with Nazis, calling them "very sinister" and comparing them to "termites." Heck, you can easily imagine the daily-newspaper account: Brush County GOP Chairman Denny Dan Johnson Jr. told a local Eagle Forum luncheon on Friday that gay people were like "Nazis" and "termites," out to destroy civilization and steal our children. The remarks won warm and sustained applause from the 11 people in attendance, but when the Brush County Fire reported the remarks, some felt that Johnson may have gone too far. The state Republican chairman reacted strongly, warning Johnson to "tone it down a bit."

But on the second week in March, the plot was a lot less predictable. The county chairman who unleashed a vicious anti-gay tirade was a Democrat. And he’s the party leader in booming Bexar County, not in some remote stretch of the Great State where gay people might still seem a little, you know, unfamiliar. Dan Ramos, the Democratic chairman in San Antonio, is quite familiar with GLBT folk. One of his deputy chairs is a lesbian. The Bexar Democrats recently had a gay man as their chairman. And when Ramos ran for the job last year, he sought the endorsement of the Stonewall Democrats of San Antonio. "I do not condone discrimination," he told the gay group.

He has a funny way of showing that. Speaking to the San Antonio Current on the second Friday in March, Ramos let fly with his uncensored view of the Stonewall Democrats: "I liken them to the Tea Party—the Tea Party and the fucking Nazi Party—because they’re 90 percent white, blue-eyed and Anglo, and I don’t give a fuck who knows that. Just like the blacks ... they’re American, but you can’t get your way just because you’re black."

Shameful, hateful and bigoted thinking. :puke:

4. I am sad that this doesn't surprise me
I keep telling people that there are Democrats who aren't actual Democrats, in the South, particularly the conservative Democrats. There was a time where Democrats in the South (maybe all) were pretty much in values like the Republicans of today. Then around the 50's and 60's we grew up and things changed. A tangible change you can point to is the singing of the Civil Rights bill and Pres. Johnson's comment that the Democratic Party lost the South. Many turned Republican around that time, but others stayed Democrat out of fierce loyalty. And it's very irritating to listen to those Democrats talk.

Of course, there are also those who are socially conservative, rather than politically. As Richardo pointed out, there are jerks everywhere.

5. Southern Democrats were a huge part of the so called "Reagan Democrats"
Your right about the stubborn ones not moving or moving very late too. Rick Perry and Phill Gramm were "Reagan Democrats".
Wikipedia entry for Southern Democrats

Southern Democrats are members of the U.S. Democratic Party who reside in the American South. In the early 19th century, they were the definitive pro-slavery wing of the party, opposed to both the anti-slavery Republicans (GOP) and the more liberal Northern Democrats.

Eventually "Redemption" was finalized in the Compromise of 1877 and the Redeemers gained control throughout the South. As the New Deal began to liberalize Democrats as a whole, Southern Democrats largely stayed as conservative as they had always been, with some even breaking off to form farther right-wing splinters like the Dixiecrats. After the Civil Rights Movement successfully challenged the Jim Crow laws and other forms of institutionalized racism, and after the Democrats as a whole came to symbolize the mainstream left of the United States, the form, if not the content, of Southern Democratic politics began to change. At that point, most Southern Democrats defected to the Republican Party, and helped accelerate the latter's transformation into a more conservative organization.

After World War II, during the civil rights movement, Democrats in the South initially still voted loyally with their party. The signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, however, was the last straw for many Southern Democrats, who began voting against Democratic incumbents for GOP candidates. The Republicans carried many Southern states for the first time since before the Great Depression.

When Richard Nixon courted voters with his Southern Strategy, many Democrats became Republicans and the South became fertile ground for the GOP, which conversely was becoming more conservative as the Democrats were becoming more liberal. However, Democratic incumbents still held sway over voters in many states, especially those of the Deep South. In fact, until the 1980s, Democrats still had much control over Southern politics. It wasn't until the 1990s that Democratic control collapsed, starting with the elections of 1994, in which Republicans gained control of both houses of Congress, through the rest of the decade. Southern Democrats of today who vote the Democratic ticket are mostly urban liberals. Rural residents tend to vote the Republican ticket, although there are a sizable number of conservative Democrats.

Instead, Ramos hurled new epithets and against (sic) referred to gay Democrats as “termites,”

7. So why isn't he a Republican and being honest about his bigotry?
Makes you wonder if he wasn't a Republican, just biding his time until he could get into a position to do some damage. If he won't resign, the Democrats should fire him...not sure how you do that, but there must be a mechanism in their by-laws that addresses how to recall someone for this kind of anti-Democratic behavior.

8. I think
it's an elected position. In my county, it is. I think yearly, too. I never pay that close attention, because we only have one person running each time.

9. I believe it is
and I don't think there's any mechanism for involuntary removal. Look at our "dem" candidate in TX22 - couldn't get her off the ticket as a Dem - best they could do was un-endorse her. Of course, enough of the fools here voted for her in the primary.....
