Budget protesters besiege Perry's office
AUSTIN — Gov. Rick Perry's second-floor Capitol offices were roped off Wednesday in the wake of a budget protest by people with disabilities.
Tuesday's protest — and Perry's reaction — was just one sign of the continuing fight over the prospect of cutting the state budget to meet a shortfall estimated at $15 billion to $27 billion.
Other signs included students from the University of Texas and others who came to the Capitol on Wednesday to protest cuts. Families whose loved ones are in nursing homes also visited lawmakers, worried that rate cuts could shut the homes' doors or curtail services.
