Houston DUer merci_me
... passed away last Wednesday. I knew her as Mary, a devoted Democratic activist from so far back that she tap-danced as a young girl at an Ohio political rally for Harry Truman. She was on a first-name basis with General Wesley Clark. She worked on campaigns too numerous to count in Houston, Harris County, and Texas; Chris Bell, Bob Gammage, and Jim Henley just to name a few that I remember.

We last chatted in person at the Texas Democratic Party convention in Corpus this past July. I will greatly miss her grace, wit, and charm.

Her family's visitation will take place Monday, January 24, at Forest Park Westheimer, 12800 Westheimer Rd (just west of Dairy-Ashford), from 7-9 p.m. and her service will be Tuesday, January 25 at 10 a.m. at FPW. Interment will be in Lima, OH.

If you have a remembrance or a condolence to share for her husband Jim and her children and grandchildren, please post it and I will print this out for them.

1. She will be missed
I knew her too. Lovely woman. Big heart. My condolences to Jim and all of Mary's family. I hope they find comfort during this hard time.

Godspeed Mary and may you dance with Barbara, Molly, Ann and Lady Bird Johnson in the big Democratic convention in the sky.

2. She introduced me to DU.
She and I met on a soap discussion group over 10 years ago. I posted a message there about her passing, and most of the comments are about how she was always reaching out to others who were going through health problems or who had a personal loss to deal with.

Her husband Jim is a very good man too. My thoughts are with him and the whole family. :grouphug:
