5. I voted the first day and it was busy too
I voted at the HEB off S. Congress and there was a waiting line of 5-6 people in line. They had about 6 machines at this location. It was the middle of the afternoon.

Great to see a line to vote!

:hi: Hobbit!

8. Voted today in Houston. Busy, busy - had to wait for a machine.
I also never mark "straight ticket", because they are easier to identify & discard, which I would never put past a Texas republican.

Besides, it prolongs the pleasure of voting against the Evil Empire.

Happy Voting!

I didn't vote for any 3rd party sociopaths. No difference between them and the GOP as far as I'm concerned.

12. There was a line on Monday at the Randall's on Wm Cannon and Mopac
That is close to Circle C and likely a more mixed voting location, but South Austin was definitely voting that day!
I noticed they are now making you double check if your precinct is correct. A couple of my Sunset Valley friends were disenfranchised that way last election 'cuz we miss local elections out of precinct. A friend of mine did not pre check for precinct and was unable to vote for his wife who was running for council because he was given a wrong ballot.

13. I Voted, Too
I voted early at The Shriners' Temple off of Anderson Lane. I don't know what the statewide and national results are going to be in a couple of weeks, but it won't be any fault of my own if the Rethuglies win as big as their shills are confidently boasting.

I voted late Wednesday (10/20/10) afternoon. There wasn't much of a line when I cast my ballot. I voted straight Democratic except in races where a Rethug only had a Libertarian opponent.

14. Who are the San Antonio Democrats?
I've never posted here, so I can't start my own thread. I live in San Antonio, my zip code is 78251. Can someone please tell me who the Democratic candidates are for me? I want to vote party line, but I can't figure out who to vote for. I just moved to TX, but I am able to vote. I'm overwhelmed by the process, in my former state, it was so much easier to vote party line. I don't want to mistakenly vote for the wrong person. I'm doing early voting tomorrow, so if anyone could please tell me who the Democratic candidates are, I'm be so thankful! And since I'm new to TX, if anyone could point me to where I can determine for myself who the TX Dems are, and Dems in my district in San Antonio, I'd be extra grateful.

Thank so much! I promise I'm no repub hack, I'm an honest, pinko hippie liberal who just doesn't know who to vote for!

15. Welcome to Texas & thank you for asking!
At the top of your ballot you will have the option to vote "straight party", you can mark "Democratic Party" and be done with it.

You can use the following link to Bexar County Elections to see your specific ballot by entering your street address:

http://apps.bexar.org/cfdocs/electionspublic/Where2Vote.cfm

It will also give your voting location FOR ELECTION DAY ONLY.

You can see your ballot ahead of time by doing this, and I believe you may have some propositions on the Bexar County ballot so you can see those also.

Here is a link to the EARLY VOTING locations and hours:

http://www.bexar.org/elections/EarlyVote/20101102EVCALENDAR.pdf

Be sure to take a few items to verify your identity / residency since you are a new voter, just in case (drivers license, voters registration card, maybe a utility bill if you have one).

Here are the names of the statewide Dems we are supporting:

Governor - Bill White

Lieutenant Governor - Linda Chavez-Thompson

Attorney General - Barbara Ann Radnofsky

Commissioner of the General Land Office - Hector Uribe

Commissioner of Agriculture - Hank Gilbert

Railroad Commissioner - Jeff Weems

Justice, Supreme Court, Place 3 - Jim Sharp

Justice, Supreme Court, Place 5 - Bill Moody

And I believe, based on your zip code, also

Member, State Board of Education,
District 5 - Rebecca Bell-Metereau

Of course, if you vote straight ticket Dem, these should all be automatically chosen.

Happy Voting!

18. Thanks!
This is exactly what I needed, and could not find. Thank you so very much. I knew that our Texan Hospitality would help me out. And thanks for the info about making sure that I am registered. I voted last year in a local election, but this is much more important election, and I wanted to make sure I voted pure Democrat. Last year it was easy, this year, it was more complicated. I just completed my 1 year anniversary as living in Texas. Aside from the right-wing nut-jobs, I love it! I came from VA, and TX is way better! And folks are so very helpful, like you!

22. I Voted!
Thank you all so very much for the help, and the fantastic Texan welcome! I'm new to Texas, I work for USAA, and my job relocated my family here to San Antonio. We love it!

I went and early voted today with my daughter, who is 7. It was an early release day from school, so we had extra time.

Voting was so easy! I came from VA, and in VA, at least in my area, you could not simply vote the party line. Also, they do not show the party affiliation on the ballot. This means you really have to be dedicated, and do your research, to make sure that you don't vote for the wrong person. I do think that every voter should be educated and aware of whom they are voting, but in local elections, it can be hard to know who is the Democrat for a small office like County Judge, etc. Having the choice to vote party line, and having the freedom to be a little lazy, and not worry if you forget your 'cheat sheet' makes voting so much easier. I'm in my mid-30s, and this is the first time that I know, for certain, that I voted straight party line, and that I did not mistakenly vote for the wrong person.

I was allowed to take my daughter with me into the voting booth, which was not allowed in VA. So, while voting, I got to explain the process for her, and we talked about the issues, and why I was voting a certain way. It was a very easy, painless, and quick way to vote. In VA, in my area, we did not do early voting. So, you had to vote on election day, and stand in line. And as far back as Bush VS. Gore, I had to stand in line for hours. My daughter was a newborn then, so we had to deal with long lines, and a cranky baby. This was the easiest voting experience I've ever had.

Yay Texas!

24. Fantastic! Thanks for telling us about your experience, it sounds like a good one.
Congrats on the move to SA and the job w/USAA.

I grew up in SA and I worked for USAA for 8+ yrs, my hubby worked there for 10+, my dad STILL works there, as does some of my extended family - great company to work for.
We also have many friends there. Of course, we still have all our insurance & financial products there.

I'm so glad you had a good first voting experience here in Texas. I think Early Voting is a stroke of brilliance.
My sisters live in Philly and they do NOT have Early Voting, and with small children & jobs, it is a very big effort to make the crazy lines on one day only.

Very Happy to have new Dems in Texas!

29. Welcome to San Antonio and to Texas
I grew up in Austin but my first job after UT was at the San Antonio Light. It's gone now, but it was a great adventure and I love San Antonio. I want to get down there for a weekend and explore the new River Walk extension. My husband works for Texas Farm Bureau insurance and has great respect for USAA.

But it maybe after work one day next week instead. I had school all day today.

I also don't vote straight party since there's races with no dems running.

27. I did it today
And voted every Dem I could. We have "races" where only one Republican candidate is on the ballot.

Today, I noticed far more Libertarians running against the Republicans. I voted Libertarian more than I ever have in my life.
