Gunman dead after opening fire in McKinney

A gunman is dead after police say he opened fire at McKinney Public Safety Building Tuesday morning. There was an exchange of gunfire that sent nearby Collin College into lockdown.

There was an exchange of gunfire that sent nearby Collin College on 2200 West University Drive into lockdown.

It followed a fire in the gunman's pickup truck which was filled with ammunition.

Police clarified at a press conference that there was one gunman involved and that gunman is now dead. Police say they could not say whether that gunman shot himself or died from returning fire by officers.

The gunman drove and parked a Ford F150 pickup truck that was loaded with ammunition outside the police department and set that truck on fire. The ammunition inside of the vehicle started going off.

2. Republican event relocated due to incident.

I get Collin County Republican emails. They had a "Jewish Republican comedian" scheduled for tonight at that campus. Due to the lockdown, it's been moved to another campus, but the email just went out this afternoon so there probably won't be many people that make it to the new location.

5. Another home grown terrorist then?

Police say 29-year-old Patrick Gray Sharp drove a Ford F150 pickup pulling a trailer to the station and set it on fire in an apparent attempt to draw people out of the building. Inside the trailer, police said, were wood chips, roadside flares, gasoline, and ammonium nitrate fertilizer, the type used in the bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City.

"He had a plan. He was executing his plan," McKinney Police Chief Doug Kowalski said at an afternoon news conference at which he confirmed Sharp's identity and talked about the unusual nature of the attack.
