Anti-Perry Ad to Launch on Television Tonight
A new political action committee billing itself as the Back to Basics PAC has produced a 30-second anti-Perry spot that is expected to start running in select Texas markets tonight. Democratic sources say the ad buy totals $250,000, and hits on a theme we've heard a lot this summer: Perry's elite lifestyle, in the face of a multi-billion dollar budget crisis.

Rick Perry will cut the budget for kids, but not his wine list!

Great ad!

4. I think so
The $10,000 a month is the rental of property period. All those other expenses the AP article found like the subscription to Wine magazine, the $700 coat rack etc were expenses on top of that. I guess the extra three grand a month "lawn maintenance" covers the pool cleaning too huh?

5. Another video from The Observer
Just for fun parody ad -
Rick Perry Rick-Rolls Texas
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpmCB7c9f4w

Rick Perry actually says "I think I'm standing in the presence of right wing extremists, you are the true American patriots." He said this at the 2009 tea party rally in Austin.

If you have a YouTube account go give it a good rating!

9. Thanks for the report
It is supposed to be playing in the urban areas. That's where we can pick up the most votes.

I hope it is getting some play in the Rio Grande Valley too.

GOP files complaint against anti-Perry group

The head of the Travis County Republican Party filed an ethics complaint today against a nascent political action committee that produced a television ad critical of Gov. Rick Perry.

The Back to Basics PAC circulated the ad later this week. But in a complaint filed with the Texas Ethics Commission, Travis County GOP Chairwoman Rosemary Edwards alleged that the PAC could not yet spend the money to make the spot because it filed its initial paperwork with the Ethics Commission in the middle of May.

According to state law, a political action committee cannot make a political expenditure until 60 days after it files paperwork with the Ethics Commission saying it has named a treasurer. Back to Basics appointed its treasurer May 19.

Oops too bad. Guess they'll get a little slap on the wrist like most ethics violations in Texas. Full speed ahead - Basics PAC! Or we can just wait one month and start running them again!

PAC says it complied with law

The Back to Basics Political Action Committee, which is running television ads critical of Gov. Rick Perry, said today it has complied with state law.

(snip)
But in a press release this morning, the PAC pointed to an exception in the law that waives the 60-day requirement for a group that takes money from a PAC that is registered with the Federal Election Commission. Earlier this month, Back to Basics received $200 from a PAC tied to the Communication Workers of America union.

"There is no screen door at the Ethics Commission and unscrupulous people take advantage of that," Back to Basics said in its release.

15. New twist - PAC threatens to run more ads!
First Reading blog AAS 6/30/10
Lawmakers launch public discussion of gambling options

(snip)
On Friday, Travis County Republican Party Chairwoman Rosemary Edwards filed a Texas Ethics Commission complaint against the Back to Basics PAC, which is running a television ad mocking Gov. Rick Perry. She said the PAC did not wait the appropriate amount of time after filing its initial paperwork with the state to start spending money. The PAC responded that the 60-day wait did not apply because it received a contribution from a federally registered PAC.

Now things are getting really interesting. In a letter delivered to Edwards on Tuesday, PAC director Cliff Walker told Edwards to withdraw the complaint or the PAC would purchase more air time. Walker wrote, "Now that you have actual knowledge (and proof) that your bogus complaint is entirely frivolous and without merit, you need to contact immediately the Texas Ethics Commission and formally withdraw your bogus complaint. If you fail to issue the Back to Basics PAC an apology for your unscrupulous action and do not withdraw your complaint by the close of business on Friday, we will have no choice but to buy an additional $100,000 of air time for the ad on Governor Perry’s luxury mansion. In addition, I would remind you that the Commission can sanction a complainant for filing a frivolous, groundless, and bad-faith complaint. If you refuse to withdraw your bad-faith complaint by the close of business Friday, we reserve the right to ask the commission for sanctions."

Oh I love this PAC - they are wickedly funny!:rofl::rofl:
