Stop Rick Perry before he kills again
Not talking about the latest death row execution. No, Our Governor AMF blasted a coyote while out on a run.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has a message for wily coyotes out there: Don't mess with my dog.

Perry says he needed just one shot from his laser-sighted pistol to take down a coyote that was menacing his dog during an early morning jog in an undeveloped area near Austin.

Perry told The Associated Press he sometimes carries his pistol, loaded with hollow-pointed bullets, when he jogs on trails because he's scared of snakes — and that he'd seen coyotes in that area.

When the coyote came out of the brush toward his daughter's labrador retriever puppy on a February jog, he charged it and shot it with his .380 Ruger pistol.

"Don't attack my dog or you might get shot ... if you're a coyote," Perry said.

This raises several questions:

-- Hollow points and a laser sight on a .38 caliber pistol?

-- Worn while jogging? (At the waist, or shoulder holster? Either way seems cumbersome for a run, not to mention the chafing.)

-- To protect himself against snakes and his dog from a coyote? Neither of those poses much threat to a person; in fact a coyote will typically turn tail if you so much as stomp your feet.

-- Seriously?

Even in the absence of his detail of bodyguards (several similarly-heavily-armed Texas Rangers) this sounds overzealous in its safety precaution, considering that his only real danger is the crazed Austin liberal with a gun, or the adoring throngs of conservatives that might bum-rush him Justin Bieber-style while he's outside the gates of the $9000-a-month mansion Texans are paying for him to live in (while the Governor's mansion is being rebuilt).

And I just thought he was afraid to debate Bill White.

This man is the biggest. coward. alive.

1. It's his penis enhancer
Little Ricky has to prove he's a big man.

Can you say taurine metabolic byproducts? because his story is definitely a large pile of it.

2. Sounds staged to me
I want an autopsy done on this "coyote". I want DNA evidence that it was even a wild animal. I wouldn't put it past Perry and his minions to have rounded up an animal that conveniently was let loose on Perry's jogging trail, just so he could shoot it.

Snakes on his jogging trail, really? Where the hell is he jogging? And he's in "imminent danger" from a city coyote. I bet if he threw a rock at it, it would have run. It isn't a wolf.

The timing too is suspect. He's running without his security detail. Well now everyone knows now he runs alone. And of course the "coyote" is also a term for predators that bring undocumented workers into the U.S.

I just smell fake all over this story. :grr:

3. Realy, really sounds fake now
From reading the AAS Statesman blog First Reading just now I read the "incident" happened in February of this year. Not this week.

Jim Vertuno of The Associated Press broke the story and talked to Perry himself. Vertuno wrote, "Perry told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he sometimes carries his pistol, loaded with hollow-point bullets, when he jogs on trails because he’s scared of snakes. He’d also seen coyotes in that area. When the coyote came out of the brush toward his daughter’s Labrador retriever puppy on a February jog, he charged it and shot it with his .380 Ruger pistol."

So who believes that Perry would have kept that little, giddy secret to himself for two months just so he could spring it at the right time? He's so full of himself he would have called the press right away - from the trail. I'm sure the Governor carries his cell phone too, no? His phone has to weigh less than his gun. He probably has a combo holster to carry all his essentials with him when he runs.

Oh and how convenient that there is no "evidence" of the dead coyote.
The governor left the coyote where it fell.

"He became mulch," Perry said.

The press are such losers to buy every "fishing story" a politician like Perry tells them. :eyes:

4. Gov. Perry's coyote hunt may have violated state law and city ordinances
Gov. Rick Perry's use of a handgun to kill a coyote that he says was threatening a labrador puppy may have violated both city of Austin ordinances and state law.

Perry spokesman Mark Miner said the governor's staff is researching various ordinances and laws and will respond later.

The only real issue is whether Perry's rental home and the area he was jogging in is within Austin city limits or in unincorporated Travis County. The $9,000 a month rental home is in a sparsely populated, wooded subdivision. Coyotes are a problem in many Austin neighborhoods.

Zoning records of the city of Austin show the subdivision where Perry's rental home is located is within the city limits. Austin city ordinances specifically forbid the discharge of a firearm in city limits, with some exceptions. A violation is a misdemeanor punishable by a $500 fine.

6. Oh that is too funny
Is Perry going to claim ignorance of the law? The Governor doesn't know where he lives? He's got to have his staff go "research" it.

I hope this whole staged event blows up in his face! The Governor will be a convicted criminal!:rofl::rofl:

5. What a big a$$ed sissy!
Scared of snakes? He feels the need to carry a gun because he's afraid of snakes? Are you kidding me?? I'm a 50 year old woman who has hiked all over Austin (was at Inks Lake SP last weekend) and never felt the need to "arm" myself in defense of snakes. This story does sound fishy.

7. I'm thinking it was a fox and not a coyote
Perry probably doesn't know the difference.

I'm scared of snakes too, but I also know they are more scared of humans than we are of them. They probably wouldn't be sunning themselves on jogging trails.

This is all a publicity stunt to get Perry to look like he's part of the wild, wild west. You know make him more "macho".

Like that time Shrub went hunting to look all "manly" to the press ... and then shot a Killdeer instead of a Dove. It's enough to make a Texan gal mighty ashamed.

28. I'm thinking it was neither
In my experience no wild animal would come in range of a small self defense pistol like a Ruger LCP unless it was in the latter stages of rabies or imaginary. I honestly think it was the latter. I honestly think Perry is as much of a gun person as Shrub is a horse person.

Lord save us from cowards who have to carry a gun to defend themselves from big bad snakes and coyotes. Wouldn't a really brave man simply use his bare hands and choke those mean old snakes and coyotes to death if he had to protect a little puppy?

13. "Palin impressed with Perry's coyote killing"
http://blogs.chron.com/texaspolitics/archives/2010/04/palin_impressed.html

Gov. Rick Perry had a jawdropping quip as he introduced his friend Sarah Palin: "She often reminds me that size really does matter"
He soon indicated he was talking about state size and Palin reinforced that idea.

"It's really good to be back in Alaska's little sister state."
Palin also praised Perry's recent coyote killing, which he said he did to defend his Lab pup. She pronounced herself "really impressed."

Letting Palin say "Texas is Alaska's little sister"! I can't believe the egos in the Texas repuke party would let Perry let her get away with that.

How about a mano a mano match Sarah - you and Little Ricky - for state's bragging rights. Oh wait... she might actually win that.

18. Palin believes Texans are nazis too, huh
Haha. Texas is Alaska's "little sister".

Obviously Palin is referring to the fact that both states tend to vote republican. The only difference is that Texas' increasing hispanic population and growing metropolitan areas will lead to more Democratic voters...

Ah but who cares, Palin's general lack of intelligence on any subject that doesn't include telling terrible jokes about pitbulls and lipstick will always steer her in the wrong direction, anyways.

19. Kirk Watson's mocks Perry's grunning story (running with gun)
AAS 5/4/10
Watson's got his own gun/running tale
Turns out that state Sen. Kirk Watson, D-Austin, has a way with satire.

In his weekly e-newsletter, Watson describes how he shot a group of giant rats that were laughing at him as he went running with a group of recently adopted kittens.

Watson, of course, was mocking Gov. Rick Perry's recently disclosed tale of shooting a coyote while he was out jogging with his son's puppy.

And in his own tale, Watson raises some good questions. If you fear snakes, is shooting them the best way to avoid them? And who carries a handgun on a morning run?

An excerpt from Watson's yarn: "So I whipped out the pistol, looked out at the giant rats and said, 'Rats, this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world. It will blow your heads clean off. So you'd better let the kittens and me keep running, or I'm gonna do the appropriate thing and send you where giant rats go.'

Kirk Watson Wire
Grunning With Kitties
(snip)
I have a secret that I've been keeping under wraps. I haven't disclosed it to anyone – not in public, not in private, not in this weekly email newsletter that’s posted on my web site, Twitter, and Facebook. Not to any of the thousands of people I come in contact with each week.

How could I know that it would actually improve my chances of getting on a Presidential ticket?

Two months ago, I was out for an early-morning run. As usual, I was carrying a Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum (that's right; the kind that Dirty Harry carried). I was fully loaded with steel-piercing shells and a sight I designed myself using GPS technology (I’d tell you more about it, but it’s classified).

Now, I know that some people might think it’s kind of, I don’t know, hard to believe – that someone would be carrying around a handgun on a morning run. Incredible, one might say.

But you just never know when you’ll need to defend yourself from snakes (let's face it, you need some heavy artillery if you're really scared of a snake). Or coyotes (no, really, some coyotes don't just run away from humans – for example, that one you see at the San Antonio Spurs games). Or armed statewide elected officials.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

:applause: Way to go Senator Watson!

23. I particularly like the link about "where Giant Rats Go"
Edited on Thu May-06-10 05:30 PM by Melissa G
(emphasis mine) It links to Perry's story implying who is a giant rat, but it could also just be a link to Perry's story and references...I love subtle political insults. I also love how he doesn't expressly call Perry a liar and just tells a bigger more amusing whopper. Sigh. We used to have a lot more of these types of stories back in the days of Mattox and Richards and when I used to like Hightower before his Kinky defection...

27. Public Information Request Made for Info on Rick Perry's Coyote Shooting
Burnt Orange Report 5/21/10
Public Information Request Made for Info on Rick Perry's Coyote Shooting

Below is a copy of a Public Information Request made to the City of Austin for records relating to Rick Perry's alleged shooting of a coyote in West Austin earlier this spring. It begins with some background information prior to the request items which is great read, including some points that never in the history of Austin have there been reports cases of circumstances that led to Rick Perry's claims.

I'm not saying Rick Perry lied about the events involving his heroic defense of a puppy on a hiking trail; I'm just equally curious as to how a Governor of Texas happened to be a historical first in an event that was politically advantageous to him.

Karl-Thomas might not say Rick is lying, but I will. Letter from Jim Harrington on BOR's site.

Absolutely awesome! Jim turns it around on Perry. Shouldn't he have reported the carcass of the coyote so that it could be tested for rabies?
