Report: Hutchison Won't Resign From Senate
Talking Points Memo 3/31/10
Report: Hutchison Won't Resign From Senate

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), who recently lost a Republican primary for governor of Texas, is expected to announce today that she will serve out her full Senate term through 2012.

For the past year and more, Hutchison had challenged incumbent Gov. Rick Perry in the Republican primary. She had previously planned to resign her office during the primary campaign itself, but had reversed her decision in November, though she kept the door open to resigning after the March 2 primary. Had Hutchison resigned, the seat would have been filled with a temporary appointment by Perry, along with an expedited special election.

Can anyone really be surprised? She never kept her word about term limits either. She said she would only serve 2 terms and then ran for a third term. Then she repeatedly said she would only stay on to "help fight health insurance reform". Her excuse for not resigning last fall. Then this year she said she would resign no matter who won the Governor's primary race in March.

Kay Bailey the Senate's biggest flip-flopper.

Hutchison to finish term in Senate, source says

U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison will finish her term in the U.S. Senate, which ends in 2012, according to a Republican source.

She had said prior to the March primary that she would resign her seat regardless of whether she won or lost her race for Texas governor.

2. Pathetic. And she ran a pathetic campaign for governor.
I was so hoping for a knock-down drag-out GOP primary.

3. Me too - hoping for a good R primary fight
She has as much fire as a wash rag. That won't stop her from running again though.

4. Hutchison, despite earlier pledges, is staying in Senate

Hutchison, despite earlier pledges, is staying in Senate

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison said this morning that she will stay in the Senate for the remaining 33 months of her term, reversing repeated pledges that she made during her failed campaign for governor.

The senator appeared at a news conference in San Antonio with her Texas Republican colleague, Sen. John Cornyn, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.

She said she wasn't going to leave Washington because the country needs her to stand against the liberal agenda of President Barack Obama and the Democratic majority in Congress.

"My experience will be better used fighting this effort by the president and the Congress to do so much to take away the essence of America," she said.

Really Kay - the essence of America? How about telling the truth and keeping your word? Aren't those core values to Americans? Apparently not to Texas Republicans, you lie as easily as you breath. :eyes:

5. Kay Stays
Texas Tribune 3/31/10
Kay Stays

Surprising almost no one, U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison announced in San Antonio she will not resign her Senate seat. She'll stay through the end of her term in 2012.

"I certainly intended to leave in the last year, but I also, something has happened in our country that maybe none of us could have anticipated," she said. "It has caused me to look at my resignation in a different way."

The reactions:
(snip)
Boyd Richie, chairman, Texas Democratic Party:

"No one is surprised that Sen. Hutchison is not resigning her seat. We never believed she would leave the Senate, and it’s disappointing that she refused to shoot straight with Texas voters. The real test for Hutchison is if she will stand by her criticisms of Rick Perry or hypocritically embrace his failed service as Governor."

I'm going to put in my guess now and say she will embrace Perry wholeheartedly this fall. She is after all a big a failure as he is and republican failure loves company.

7. Nope
She can't keep her pledges straight. Which lie does she run from or more importantly to. Perry is cut from the exact same cloth. First he says she was Washington Kay - the problem with Washington, and now he says she's fighting for Texas.

Scum the whole lying lot of them. :puke:

8. "was not her first reneging"
Love to see the media centering in on her "reneging":
Yahoo News 3/31/10
Hutchison ends back and forth on her career plans
(snip)
Hutchison said last year that she would step down by the end of 2009 to concentrate on her run for governor.

Then, in late fall, she said she felt she needed to remain in the Senate to battle President Barack Obama's health care initiative. She said she would stay until after the March 2 primary. And on the campaign trail in Texas in late February, Hutchison continued to say she would resign after the health care debate and that she would be gone by November 2010.

Her announcement Wednesday was not her first reneging on a decision to leave the Senate. When elected in 1994, she said she would limit herself to no more than two terms, but she sought a third term in 2006, saying she wanted to stay in the Senate to work on homeland security and tax issues. She also publicly toyed with running for governor twice before entering the 2010 primary.

Perry, who shaped his primary re-election fight against Hutchison railing against her as a Washington insider, now faces Democrat Bill White in the November general election.

She's a republican for Christ's sake, she can renege on anything if she wants to.
