Marc Katz: Nothing better to do with family bucks than run for Lite Gov
Austin deli king Marc Katz said Wednesday his family members would pour millions of their own money into his campaign for lieutenant governor.

How many millions? That detail Katz will announce on Friday, he said before filing the paperwork with the Texas Democratic Party to run for the party’s nomination.

First Shami, now Katz. What is up with these "Democrats" in this state who think a fat checkbook qualifies them to run the state?

Remember how few votes Marc Katz got in the Austin Mayoral race?

3. What is with all the negativity? What are we doing for TEXAS?
Why can't we look forward and address the actual issues? Why are we depending so heavily on this Dewhurst guy? I have no clue of what he has ever done. Dewey much like Kay Bailey Huchison who both also get a lot of family money towards their campaigns.

Have you ever made a mistake in your life or what?

I guess I saw that video a little differently than you Melissa G. I saw a man who was excited about registering to run. Perhaps Mr. Katz was not totally 1000% organized. What I heard and saw on the other side of the camera was a smart alecky reporter guy who presented himself (deceptively) as a friend to Katz and then subsequently exploited it.

Isn't there more important stuff to focus on in this election? I think this announcement really meant that things could get interesting.

5. Welcome to Texas DU forum Annebot
:hi:

It's not negativity to bring out what's bad in a candidate - that's called discussion on this board. And we've discussed Katz quite a bit already. And Dewhurst - are you kidding? He's a republican hack and this is a Democratic board. He's not even an option.

I would venture to say that 99.9% of us will be backing Ronnie Earle for Lt. Governor. Katz certainly has every right to run and we have every right to pick the candidate we feel is best qualified and best represents Texas Democratic values.

There is nothing wrong with self financing. It's not about the personal money or wealth, it's about the right fit for the job. I wish Marc Katz the best.

I will be voting for Ronnie.

6. Dewhurst will probably jump to the Senate race once KBH bails
Me, I'm a big fan of Ronnie Earle and his excellent, long record of public service. You can certainly compare records and decide to support whoever you want.

I personally don't know how you come up with Marc's announcement making the race interesting. I'd rather Ronnie have more money to spend in the general election than having to waste any money in the primary on someone (IMHO) who is not remotely in his league as a public servant and savvy politician. As you likely know, currently Lite Guv is the strongest office in the state. The games that get played in the lege require someone who knows his stuff and can hit the ground running.

Welcome to DU :hi:

7. When I watch that video I see a clown
A clown who knows so little about the office he claims he's serious about seeking that he didn't know where to file or when the filing period opened. A clown with a big enough ego that he takes along a camera crew and a reporter to record his foolishness. A clown who makes Kinky Friedman look like James Madison.
