I can usually hear anything that happens from my home... even just flares going off. I didn't hear a thing.

TEXAS CITY — One person was killed and at least two injured after an explosion at the Valero refinery in Texas City on Friday night.

Valero spokesman Fred Newhouse said he could not confirm which unit had the explosion, which happened about 9 p.m.

My thoughts go out to the family of the employee who died, and those who were injured.

1. Every time something goes >>BOOM
I try not to have a heart attack until I hear which refinery it is. So sorry for this Valero employee & his or her family. :(

2. My condolences to the families of the dead and injured as well
So sad and tragic. These are very dangerous jobs.

The part about no threat to the community doesn't sound right to me. You think they would ever admit anything if there was a real threat?
Texas City Emergency Management coordinator Bruce Clawson said that the explosion was never a threat to the community. There was no release of any dangerous chemicals, he said.

5. My mom was in grade school
when that happened. I think she was in 3rd grade and she remembered waking up on the other side of the classroom with glass, injured kids and teachers. Some of the kids were not moving. She only had a few cuts, but she saw a lot of injured folks while trying to go home. My grandparents were living there too. That explosion haunted her her whole life.
