Schieffer(sp) AND Friedman ahead of Gilbert in this poll...
Edited on Tue Nov-03-09 09:15 AM by kjackson227
even though it's still early, I'm surprised that Friedman is leading Gilbert. The poll results are 2:28 minutes into the video.

2. TheTribune poll - there may be a problem with it
First Reading blog 11/03/09
Poll watch

The Texas Tribune launches today with a poll that shows Perry leading Hutchison, 42 percent to 30 percent. Debra Medina comes in at 7 percent. The poll shows nobody gaining much traction on the Democratic side, but Kinky Friedman leading the field.

Democrat Hank Gilbert finished at the bottom of the pack in the poll with 0.3 percent of the vote, and his campaign responded swiftly. In a lengthy statement e-mailed to reporters this morning, Gilbert spokesman Vince Leibowitz said, “It is a complete and total joke. In addition to Hank Gilbert having been left off part of the poll — a fact the Tribune fails to mention but which is clearly mentioned in a footnote of the poll — the company conducting the poll is one that conducts unreliable internet-based polls.”

The poll was conducted Oct. 20-27 in conjunction with the University of Texas. It’s worth noting that it came on the heels of a rough patch of news for Perry, specifically the national spotlight cast on his shakeup of the Forensic Science Commission. And yet it gives Perry the same lead as the last UT poll, conducted during the summer. This must be very discouraging for the Hutchison campaign, which to this point has been much more focused on Perry-bashing than laying out a vision for the state.

The Perry/Hutchison matchup is based on questioning of 357 respondents, and it has a margin of error of plus or minus 5.19 percent. One sign of hope for the Hutchison campaign: Almost one in five respondents — 18 percent — remains undecided.

3. Here is the Gilbert campaign's response to this poll:
http://hankgilbert.com/2009/11/gilbert-campaign-statement-on-texas-tribuneut-poll-results/">Gilbert Campaign Statement On Texas Tribune/UT Poll Results

TYLER—Vince Leibowitz, Communications Director for the Hank Gilbert for Texas Governor Campaign released the following statement concerning the joint Texas Tribune/University of Texas poll results released earlier this morning:

“I cannot believe I waited up until 4:40 in the morning for this poll. It is a complete and total joke. In addition to Hank Gilbert having been left off part of the poll—a fact the Tribune fails to mention but which is clearly mentioned in a footnote of the poll—the company conducting the poll is one that conducts unreliable internet-based polls.

The results of this poll across the board are universally unreliable. Just looking at the alleged religious breakdown of polling participants should tell any Texan that.

The company conducting the poll operates the website YouGovPollingPoint at pollingpoint.com. In addition to allowing people to self-register to be polled, it allows people to earn points through its polls toward the ‘purchase’ of merchandise on their website, much of their polling pool comes from people who respond to online advertisements. People may complain about the reliability of telephone polls, but the reliability of this poll is so far from being beyond reproach I don’t even know what else to say.

By way of example, I actually get email from YouGovPollingPoint. I got one on October 29 and another on October 30. My spam filter caught them.

To say that our campaign doesn’t take this poll seriously is an understatement.”

I cannot imagine a larger universe of low-information voters than those who self-identify with a website to earn prizes and then are asked to take a poll about their choices for governor. This polling company polls on everything to what people think of movie trailers to whether or not Rush Limbaugh is the real leader of the Republican party. Any candidate who is disillusioned enough to think that this poll is a reliable indicator of anything other than how eager some people may be to get a tote bag should research the company.”

7. Shame on Belo for sure.
Last year, they did a "story" about Hummers being more environmentally sound than a Prius! In less than 5 minutes investigation, I found out that this "story" was paid for by Hummer! Belo even had a Hummer ad beside the online story! Needless to say, they got an email from me.

Here in Houston, they always repeat the previous night's story the next am. They didn't repeat the Hummer story! :)

6. I can't believe that Texas Tribune used this flimsy polling company
Edited on Tue Nov-03-09 04:59 PM by sonias
I had such high hopes for this site. This is a huge mistake! And they won't acknowledge their polling problem. Seems to me if you left someone's name off the poll that's a big mistake.

But I will say this - at least they gave Hank Gilbert's campaign a chance to respond. There is an audio feature on this site where Vince responded for Hank's campaign.

Go give it a listen!

Vince does a great job in responding!
