TYLER—Noting that Democratic Primary voters need to be as informed as possible about the candidates seeking his party’s nomination for Texas Governor, Hank Gilbert on Monday challenged Democrats seeking the party’s nomination for governor to ten debates across Texas.

“Democrats across Texas deserve the opportunity to hear from the large number of candidates in this field—in person,” Gilbert said. “My opponents should welcome this opportunity to put themselves and their issues before Democratic Primary voters,” Gilbert said. “We’re ready, willing, and able to debate them anywhere, any time,” he continued.

I can't wait to see him in a debate!

1. Good for Hank!
Where are the other candidates in letting the people judge them by their words?

Gilbert proposes 10 gubernatorial debates
(snip)
Mark Thompson, a therapist who had said he’d run for governor, has endorsed Gilbert, telling the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that “there’s just too many people running.”

Gilbert’s proposed debate schedule includes Tyler, which is close to his home in Whitehouse:

* Week of Jan. 4: Education debate in El Paso

* Week of Jan. 11: All-issues debate in Dallas/Fort Worth

* Week of Jan. 18: Jobs/economy debate in Amarillo

* Week of Jan. 25: Energy/environment debate in Houston

* Week of Feb. 1: All-issues debates in McAllen and Laredo

* Week of Feb. 8: Environmental policy debate in Austin

* Week of Feb. 15: All-issues debate in Tyler

* Week of Feb. 22: All-issues debate in San Antonio

2. His campaign is getting increasingly active.
From an email today:

"Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 4, Hank Gilbert will do something no other gubernatorial candidate in the history of Texas has ever done: he will release a comprehensive policy statement on issues of concern to GLBT Texans.

It will be a history-making night for Hank, the GLBT community in Texas, and Democrats in this state. To celebrate, Hank's campaign is holding a fundraiser tomorrow evening, November 4, 2009.

We hope you will join Hank and other Houston supporters at Cafe Adobe, 2111 Westheimer Rd., Houston, for Make History With Hank, from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.. You will have a chance to meet Hank and celebrate this important night with him.
