John O'Quinn Dies in a Car Accident Today

Many of you might not know him. He was a warrior for the little guy against the machine. He was at times a big pain in the ass and made enormous sums of money so being, but he was a defender of the voiceless, a champion of the wronged, a spitter in the face of the establishment, and a charming son of a gun. Never was there a bigger thorn in the side of corporate America.

Rest in peace, big guy. I'm proud to have known and you and worked on the many cases and causes you made a zillion dollars pursuing. You earned it, buddy.

2. Yes. Flashy, over the top, but a damn good lawyer.

I think he gave a lot of money to South Texas College of Law (where I went to law school and probably where he went also).

3. He was a big supporter of U of H

I believe the library is named after him. He was a huge philanthropist and just loved the little guy. I can't think of a better example of how living your beliefs can pay off. His passion for old cars intrigued me. I think he knew they needed to be preserved, and who better than he with tons of money to do it?

Legend has it that he met his first wife at Vinson & Elkins where he started out of law school. She was the copy girl. Brass at V&E told him not to fraternize with the hired help. He quit, married her, and became a major nemesis for defense firms like V&E.

Not sure if it is ALL true, but it surely fits.
