What I don't like about DU Texas
DU Texas is probably one of the largest groups in DU and yet I do not see a united effort on being active. Many people on this list are very active in their own issues and could use some help from others. A simple email. A phone call. But we as a group don't.

Now can we organize to do something like this? Maybe for the SOB issue?

Or is DU more of a internet social club?

Hey, personally I think we have some power that we can tap.

1. well DU Texas means
an hour and a half commute to cocktails in Dallas; meetups require roadmaps and planning and a designated driver.

It IS Texas and everdang thang is bigger here, podner! :P

Yes, social club. But we are active - and Dallas County voted Dark Blue last November.

2. You make some good points John
But I see DU Texas forum more as a web board - and that may just be social club as you call it. It's very good for education of our members on certain topics but a concentrated hot bed of activity it's not. I do think that a vast majority of the members here in the Texas forum are activists in their own right. Working as pct chairs, working on political campaigns, lobbying on various issues. Most of it may be local for them. People do what they can. Not everyone has the flexibility to take time off from work to do more organized lobby type activities. But certainly people can make calls and write letters to take action.

The state board of education focus is a good idea. And since those races cover a lot of ground, most of the Texas DU board has a member they want to get rid of. Absolutely.

I'm one of those people that can't take off work/school much. But I can write letters, send emails, make occasional phone calls.

I check the Texas forum every couple of days (if not every day). I find it to be more educational about things, John and your posts are always very informative. When I see and "hey write a letter" I do. I just unfortunately don't have the time to seek stuff out on my own, so when it's posted here I always see it. :)

Hell, I know I don't even post much in the Texas forum lately, I'm not on DU nearly as much as I used to be, but I do read almost everything posted in here!

4. I've tried to organize a few Meetups
Sadly, the last two fizzled out. We used to have a pretty cohesive DFW bunch.

5. Actually, I think everyone on here is ALREADY busy...
I mean, I've chatted or met with almost everyone on here and it's my impression that almost everyone already has their clubs, causes, etc. I know I for one am kind of overtaxed and reluctant to add one more activity.

Also, I think we're really valuable as a social club -- it's networking. I know I've met people here I would not have met otherwise -- and gotten to hear about their interest, causes, etc. :)
