Woman cleared in vote-fraud case
DA says she is 'completely innocent' of charges of voting twice after clerical error

By Chris Ramirez
chris.ramirez@amarillo.com

Texas has lost Christine Scott's vote forever.

The Texas Secretary of State's Office in late November notified Randall and Deaf Smith counties that voting records showed Scott had voted twice the same day.

(snip)
"It has been a total nightmare," said Scott, adding that she "always votes" and that she followed the 2008 race closely. "This is the worst thing I have ever gone through my whole life."

Officials from each county called Scott to acknowledge the error and apologize, she said. Scott said she was grateful the charges were thrown out, but added she also is looking for an attorney.

She wants to be reimbursed for the $5,000 she spent on bail, and wages she lost for missing four days of work. She's also seeking damages for pain and suffering.

"They made a mistake, a big one," Scott said. "They should have investigated more. If they did, none of this would have happened to me."

This could happen to any one of us. And because the Rs are screaming about voter fraud very day, they trip over themselves trying to find a case. Once again it's not fraud but human (poll worker) error. Surprise, surprise. I hope she does find a lawyer and they sue the crap out of these counties and the state even.

You got get'em Christine! :grr:

1. I have a new counter to the voter fraud whine.
The Attorney General is responsible for protecting the integrity of our elections.

So either the Attorney General is failing to do his job or there is no epidemic of voter fraud.

So it boils down to either republican incompetence or republican lies.

Take your choice.

2. It's both - choice #3
They can be both incompetent and lie to divert attention from their real goal - voter suppression of Democratic voters.

Here is the earlier story where they reported the arrest and the paper essentially convicted her in their publication. She should include a lawsuit of Amarillo Globe-News for defamation of character. And James Farren, Randall County criminal district attorney for being an a-hole too.

Woman's vote illegal, jury says
Indictment charges she cast two ballots

By Chris Ramirez
chris.ramirez@amarillo.com

Christine Cockrum Scott apparently loves election season.

So much so that she voted twice in last year's presidential race, authorities allege in court documents.

A Randall County grand jury this week indicted Scott, 56, charging her with illegal voting, a third-degree felony. Prosecutors believe she cast ballots in Randall and Deaf Smith counties during the early-voting period before the Nov. 4 election.

She faces up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine, if convicted.

"We believe the evidence will show this was not a mistake," said James Farren, Randall County criminal district attorney. "This was an intentional act."
