Many Austinites have met her over the years. She was a wonderful, positive person who added to the flavor of Austin while taking her role as concerned citizen seriously. My favorite encounter with her came at a large political endorsement event, when a lot of projects I was handling blew up in my face. As I was leaving the event, she and I wound up in the same elevator. She politely asked how I was doing--we didn't know each other, she was just being friendly--and I groaned and smiled ruefully. "Bad day," I said, "but I'm doing fine."
"Something happen?" she asks.
"Yeah, I tried to work something out, and it all failed."
"Did you do your best?" she asked. I nodded. "Well feel good about it, then."
I left the elevator smiling.
We'll miss you, Jennifer. As Don McClean once wrote, the world was never meant for someone as beautiful as you.

The perennial candidate was discovered Wednesday morning in front of the First English Lutheran Church, at 3001 Whitis Ave., directly across the street from AFD Station 3, AFD spokeswoman Michelle DeCrane said in an email.
The Station 3 crew responded to a 911 call that was made at approximately 7:30 a.m. They attempted to revive Gale for 30-45 minutes, but were unsuccessful, DeCrane said.
