Are Texans getting notified of inauguration tickets yet??
There's a thread in GD right now from a New York DUer who was notified today and I was wondering when Texans could expect to find out. I guess it ultimately depends on your representative, but it would be nice to know how this works.

When I called Michael McCaul's DC office, it went to voicemail...does leaving a message about the tickets along with my name and number count as getting on the list or am I expected to do more? I'm told to contact my representative but that's the only info I have. Now I'm paranoid that I haven't done enough.

1. My local rep allegedly held a lottery
I of course did not get tickets, but I'm willing to bet all the Hillary-supporters did. :grr:

2. Yes some are
I know of people in Doggett's district that have been told they will get tickets. They are not getting real tickets this year, just a confirmation that they are on the list to pick up tickets in D.C. It's a more complicated process this year to insure that no one sells their tickets on ebay or that kind of crap. So you have to pick up tickets in D.C the day before the inauguration, in person.

You should call McCaul's local office and not the D.C. office to check on your status. Make sure you tell them that you are one of his constituents and that you need to know the status of your request so you can make plans. More than likely they would have already contacted you if you were going to be one of the lucky ones. But call to confirm it just in case.

And by the way if you are determined to go to D.C. don't let the lack of a ticket deter you. The tickets are for the actual inauguration and there are only about 400,000 of them. Each U.S. Representative will get about 200 to distribute to their whole district. The odds are not very good.

But there are lots of events planned for D.C. that you may not need a ticket for. People without tickets are going to fill the national mall and watch the swearing in via large video screens. You can be part of that 1-2 million people. There are balls and other parties too. People from Austin are planning parties in Hotels in D.C. for example. So you could meet up with other Austinites going to D.C.

3. I'm going with or without the tickets
I already have a hotel room reserved which seems like the toughest part for most people. As for the tickets, I'm in a "hope for the best, expect the worst" mentality so I won't be disappointed if I don't get them. With millions of people celebrating with me in a town I've wanted to visit all my life, I know I'm going to have fun. :D
