Had my first work meeting Tuesday, and I am back at work for the first time today. All that down time really had me in a funk. Not having a routine, along with the saturated Ike coverage was really stressful. It reminded me of how I felt after 9/11. I was unemployed at the time, and just sat home absorbing every bit of info for too long.
Today I am at work trying to locate employees who are as yet unaccounted for. So far, I have been lucky. I have confirmed that 6 are OK, and have had 3 I could not contact. No bad news yet.
The island looks so strange. Once you come over the last "hill" there are dozens of boats still sitting on the sides of the road. Trees and bushes are all brown from the salt water. Those beautiful trees that line Broadway.... all brown, with one or two overturned on most blocks. Stores' entire inventories lay in 10 foot mounds in their parking lots.
Still, as bizarre as it all looks, the debris itself is a sign of progress. People are cleaning up and moving along.
