3. Caroline Kennedy stumps for Obama

Caroline Kennedy stumps for Obama

The ability to inspire is a quality that should not be dismissed, Caroline Kennedy told a crowd of Sen. Barack Obama supporters in downtown Austin Monday afternoon.

Like her father President John F. Kennedy and President Ronald Reagan, Obama can make Americans believe that the best days are yet to come and motivate them to "look to the future with hope instead of fear," she said.

"It’s rare that we find a leader who can inspire us to believe in ourselves," said Kennedy, who addressed about 250 people gathered beneath the trees at Serrano’s Restaurant on Red River Street.

Obama’s policies on health care, education, child care demonstrate that he grasps the complexity of balancing work and family, Kennedy said.

"I believe that Barack Obama understands this in a deeply personal way," Kennedy said.

I'm going to disagree with one thing this reporter wrote. Caroline was not praising Reagan. She mentioned that in a recent poll of American Presidents who the American people felt could still lead us today, that her father and Reagan were the top two choices. She said she was touched that people still thought so highly of her father.

I also met an "Obamacan" - a republican woman who had already voted for Obama at this event. She said she greatly admired the Kennedys. She also said she fully intended to vote for Obama in November as well. She said his message about there being only one united states, not a red or a blue one really inspired her.
