Houston Obama Campaign Office Grand Opening
The official grand opening was this morning. It was hard to estimate attendence because half of us were packed like sardines inside the office and thhe rest were in the front yard and lining the street on both sides getting cars to honk for us. I would guess about 400 people were there. It was a lot of fun, and everyone is really excited that Texas has a chance to actually help decide the nomination for a change! :woohoo: :patriot: :kick:

Here are a few pics from my phone...

8. This was just my second event, but it has been really fun already!
I was also at the Super Tuesday watching event, and met a lot of really good people. It was really fun talking to young kids getting involved for the first time, and sharing our experiences with our own firsts and the ups and downs of pouring yourself into a campaign.

Everyone was looking around the crowd SO MUCH... like checking each other out. It was like everyone was as excited as I was to see such a diverse crowd working together, thinking that this is how the whole country SHOULD look, instead of the de facto segregation that we seem to still have in so many ways...

2. Stephen's estimate is more like 500-600.
Went canvassing next. Historically democratic precincts. 8 to 1 Obama.

Sorry I missed you.

9. That wouldn't surprise me....
My first instinct was to say 500, but I thought I might be overestimating since I didn't compare notes with anyone.

11. Gothmog... have we met?
Your user ID sounds familiar to me.

The headquarters was pretty sparse, but I imagine they didn't set much up due to needing every spare square foot for people. I'd like to go back on an "off day" to check it out.

I think they may need help with the A/C. Granted it wasn't made to handle so many folks, but I was directly in front of the unit, and the air coming out was WARM. With spring just around the corner, that may be an important item soon!

23. Maybe
I was a DU meeting a couple of years ago with PDittie and a group at Berryhills in the Galleria area. I moved about a year ago to Fort Bend County and get to vote for Nick with my older two kids. I did go to Florida for the 2004 campaign as part of the Kerry Edwards legal/voter protection team.

5. Who from the campaign is working the Houston Office?
A great bunch just left Savannah, Georgia last week and I think they were heading to Houston. They helped give Obama the largest margin of victory (78-21%) over Hillary.

If you see Teddy (nice English guy with a thick accent), Ashley (press coordinator and HOT), or any of the other crew from Savannah be sure to tell them "HI" from Dave.

It's a great group you've got there. Be prepared to be motivated and see if you can beat our numbers of 78-21% over Hillary.

7. I heard that the first staffers have just arrived, but I don't know if they got here in time
for the rally. I think they will have their hands full (in a good way!) based on the crowd we had today!

13. It was a street party by the time I got there
as you can plainly see from Lisa's camera, and these Chronicle photos:

I got there late from my precinct chair event (at which Michael Skelly and C.O. Bradford spoke), found Lisa and waved and yelled for a few minutes before taking off for the next event.

It was, frankly, awesome. Texas is definitely catching the Obama wave.

26. Not sure....
Not sure what you mean by "when is it happpening?" The office grand opening was this weekend. It is on Southmore, off of 288 south. There should be a lot of events coming up, block walking, etc. Are you signed up on the website or Facebook or anything? There is a Houston site, www.houstonforobama.com , but I signed up for the main site, www.barackobama.com and that is where I got the other links and alerts from.
