McCain faces a tough task in Texas GOP

(snip)
Some expressed the hope that former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee would remain in the race to challenge McCain. The Texas primary is March 4.

Royal Masset, a GOP strategist, said he thinks Texas' conservative voters will go with McCain, even if their beliefs are more allied with Huckabee.

Kelly Shackelford, chief counsel of the Liberty Legal Institute, a conservative group, said most Texas conservatives would back McCain if faced with the alternative of having Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama in the White House. But they would do so grudgingly.

"I think you'd have a decent percentage of the base that is completely demoralized," he said. "I think a decent percentage of people might not vote."

That's the best thing we could hope for - that a good percentage of the wing nut base in Texas will be so disgusted with a McCain presidency that they would stay home. Please, please make it so. We would win so many of our close house races and take over the Texas House.

:woohoo:

1. Interesting stats on the money race in Texas
Texas on the Potomac blog has a rundown of the money list donated to the candidates from the Houston area here

Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama each did better than John McCain. Giuliani was the top money getter with $2,072,720. Thank God that money is already gone. I hope, or at least I don't think Rudy is going to help much. Other than giving McCain an endorsement, I doubt he turns over his campaign left overs to help him win.

You can go look up how Texas is giving to the candidates by area from the OpenSecrets.org website of Center for Responsible Politics
Texas Contributions to 2008 Presidential Candidates. Giuliani sucked out $6.3M out of Texas while Romney took out $2.7M.

Hillary has taken $4.6M to Obama's $2.7M.

Very interesting to see the metro areas.
Brazoria is Ron Paul country.
BROWNSVILLE-HARLINGEN-SAN BENITO is Hillary territory.
Austin-San Marcos is Obama territory.
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION is McCain land.
CORPUS CHRISTI was John Edwards stronghold - will be Hillary's
Dallas is for Obama
Ft. Worth is for Clinton
El Paso was Richardson's - will be Hillary's
Houston is for Hillary

HOUSTON
Hillary Clinton $1,495,658
Barack Obama $890,020

2. There's a few CC Edwards supporters leaning towards Obama
so who knows.

Webb County has more Clinton supporters than Obama, but not sure which way the Edwards folks are leaning.

3. I was an Edwards supporter before Obama
So they may break either way.

By the way I voted for Nancy Skinner in the DFA grassroots poll and I see she won. I put a little in her campaign yesterday via Act Blue.
Hope she wins!
