1. Hey PDittie, how's it hangin'?
Pretty interesting thread about the SDEC hope cooler heads prevail. John is a great guy, but abandoning those districts deemed "noncompetitive" is a terrible error, IMO. I'm not talking about running Rhett Smith like in 21 last time around either. We abandon the State School Board at our peril, as I think we have learned.

People like me are willing to squeeze money out of a very strained budget (VA disability doesn't provide for a lot discretionary spending, but commitment is commitment) to support our candidates, we know money makes this system run. You'll find me on the donor lists of a lot of candidates in this State not just in my Districts, either.

Hope you and Johncoby get square, he is a great guy, I met him at Democracyfest 2005, passionate in his beliefs, as are we all, I suppose. I certainly know where to send disgruntled homeowners now!

Tell DVO I have my ice skates sharpened up!

2. Meh
We'll be OK (I think).

acmej, you probably can't get out to Beaumont, but everybody passing through on IH-10 will soon see this:

Paid for entirely by supporters of David Van Os who live in the Beaumont area. Greg Abbott took campaign donations from practically every insurance company in the state, while folks in Southeast Texas are suffering by the failure of those same insurance companies, who simply refuse to pay for covered damages. They also are busy raising premiums and cancelling policies. Do you think there is a correlation between those campaign donations and Abbott's failure to protect Texans from this kind of ripoff?

Going after the insurance gougers is something John can support, I'm certain. ;)

3. He needs to kick some ass about this TTC
It really has people fired up. The republican ranchers I know about these parts are simply furious about it and the toll roads. David has a built in constituency in Cameron and places like that. He CAN throw Abbot out, can you point me to the recent polling data on DVO? I really want to see him displace Abbott, not to mention that I wouldn't mind having him as a neighbor...

I really wish the that we could come up with a winning strategy to depose the cheerleader KBH. She seems invincible, God only knows why. Perhaps it is because she receives more Oil Company money than any other politician (really)! I really like BAR, very, very smart lady-what a contrast between the incumbent, have you ever spoken to KBH? Nobody's home.

4. Yesterday in Kerrville
Edited on Fri Sep-01-06 08:43 AM by PDittie
David was met on the courthouse steps by the Republican County Judge, who welcomed him for the TV cameras. In Junction -- which has a population of about 2600 people -- over two hundred came to the courthouse to hear him.

Nearly 1% of the poppulation of Kimble County, in the blazing Texas sun. And you can safely presume that they were NOT all Democrats in the recent past.

I would also feel comfortable saying that NONE of the folks in Junction yesterday ascribe to the Texas Democratic Party's philosophy that we should focus on few selected races because it is a rebuilding year.

People do NOT come out in the afternoon Texas heat to hear that message.
