4. That hits a sore spot in McLennan County
Or Democratic Party is so ineffectual that they couldn't even find an opponent for freshman Rep. Charles "Doc" Anderson. At the last minute they found someone willing to run, but the check for his filing fee bounced! There are a lot of good Democrats here, but organization is not what it could be.

5. Perfect example of why we can't just stop
organizing after November.

The SDEC committee persons are suppossed to help recruit candidates. If your SDEC committee person and your County Chair are ineffective, start organizing and building a base to knock them off at the 2008 convention or in the 2008 primary on November 8. Pay attention to who you're working with now in the elections and call upon the day after the election, not in January. Hit the ground running.

6. Katy Hubener - HD 106

I've known Katy forever...we were in the Texas Tech band together and her brother is my best friend. She'll make a fine state rep. Plus her opponent is a scumbag.

7. We need to focus on helping Juan Garcia beat Gene Seaman in District 32

Here is Juan Garcia's website: http://www.electjuangarcia.com /

Here is where Juan won the ActBlue-Texas Progressive Alliance "TexRoots" Endorsement: http://www.actblue.com/page/texroots

Here is a great blog which strongly supports Juan: http://theredstate.typepad.com /

Here is another great blog which strongly supports Juan: http://truth-serum.blogspot.com/2006/04/juan-garcia-vs-...

Here is a hilarious blog with information about Juan's opponent (Eugene "Limp Dick Gene" Seaman): http://geneseamaniscreepy.blogspot.com/

9. I think 107 is winnable.
Demographics are in our favor and the candidate, Allen Vaught, is an Iraq war vet, very wholesome and photogenic, smart, with good ideas, and has $$$ from the TTLA.

10. People, do you realize what you're doing?
You're playing the consultants' and pundits' game. Come on, guys, don't do this. Debating the merits of oddsmaking over different Democratic candidates who are all taking on the jackals on behalf of the people? If you live in a district where there's a Democratic challenger taking on a Republican jackal, or where a good Democrat is fighting off a challenge, that's whom you give the bulk of your time and resources to. If you don't have a race in your own district, pluck yourself down in the closest neighboring one. FIGHT THE ENEMY WHEREVER YOU FIND HIM.

And how to wage the fight? My tip (with which some will disagree) -- instead of going and talking to the steady-voting Democrats who are probably going to be with us again, how about working on expanding the base? ID the registered voters in your precinct or neighborhood who DON'T have histories of voting, who have been abstaining. Go talk to them. Take up Maria Louisa Alvarado's challenge that you make sure at least 5 registered voters who haven't previously voted go and vote this year. At a minimum. The more the better.

Thanks for listening.
