Letters to the Editor - Galveston Daily News...
These were ALL the letters for 8/21. I'm proud of my neighbors!

It Was Time For A Terror Alert

I was talking to a friend of mine the day after the primary. I said that it was getting close to election time and that it was time for a terrorist scare and a raising of the terror alert level.

And, sure enough, here we go again. The alert level hasn’t been raised since right before the election of 2004.

...

I’ve been keeping up with politics since I was first able to vote, and I have never seen our country so divided.

Our nation has turned from a proud and brave nation that had respect all over the world into a nation of frightened people who are willing to give away their rights at the drop of a hat and a nation that has no respect at all. Nobody listens to us anymore.

Something has to change. If not, here we go again.

America Is Not Safe From Terrorism

People, open your eyes.

Five years after Sept. 11, the Bush Administration has failed to keep us safe. The Iraq war has diverted attention and funds from protecting America from terrorism.

...

The Republican Congress hasn’t followed through on the recommendations of the Sept. 11 commission. Republican political attacks during last week’s terror threat are ridiculous.

The public is weary of all the fear-mongering.

Political Pundits Abuse The Language

Words have specific meanings. When people abuse language, they make it as meaningless as the NewSpeak in George Orwell’s 1984.

Columnist Cal Thomas (The Daily News, Aug. 15) refers repeatedly to “Taliban” Democrats. The Taliban are a specific religious and political group in Afghanistan that promotes a form of Islamic theocracy that is far outside the mainstream of Islam.
...
This abuse of language is no different from people at the other end of the political spectrum referring to “Nazis” or “Klansmen.”
...

(Cal Thomas's article here: http://www.townhall.com/columnists/CalThomas/2006/08/10/taliban_democrats)

It’s The Game Of Liebermanization

Robert Novak invented a new word over the last week: Liebermanized.

His definition probably goes something like this: What happens to a Democratic politician when he supports a Republican president?

Me? I’d use a more bipartisan definition: What happens to politicians when they consistently support the policies of another party. If you’d still need help with the definition, you could look up what it means to be Schwarzed, Chafeed, Bob Smithed or Jefforded.
