Bell up to 18%, Perry down to 38%, C4n3p down to 16%, Kinky down to 11%
Overall, Rick Perry has fallen to 38%, Chris Bell is up to 18% (with only 46% name ID), Carole Strayhorn is down to 16% (despite 79% name ID), Kinky Friedman is at 11% (with 73% name ID), and Libertarian James Werner gets 1%, with 16% undecided.

“There is only one viable path to beating the hugely vulnerable Rick Perry: Chris Bell,” wrote the pollster, Alan Secrest. “Neither Friedman nor Strayhorn has a chance.”

A July 31 - August 6 survey of 1,010 likely Texas general election voters (error margin: +/- 3.1%)...:

* In an election where about a third of the electorate will win it, Perry now stands at 38% and dropping, Bell is at 18% and rising, Strayhorn at 16% and dropping, Friedman at 11% and dropping, with 1% for Werner, the Libertarian and 16% undecided.

* Carole Strayhorn has seen her vote share drop in nearly every geography and demographic, including her vaunted “Grandma” demographic. In Austin she has plummeted to 4th place, and she even trails Perry among Anglo liberals.

* Among those who recognize Chris Bell, the outcome is 32% Perry, 28% Bell, 16% Strayhorn, 13% Friedman, and 11% undecided.

* Among those who have seen recent Bell TV ads, Perry and Chris are tied, 29% each with Strayhorn coming in at 19% and Friedman at 11%.

* Fully 58% give Rick Perry negative job ratings.

* A 42% plurality of Texans who know him describe their feelings toward Kinky Friedman as negative (just 29% positive).

* Among the 79% who recognize her, Carole Strayhorn’s profile has now dipped to just 40% positive, 29% negative....

2. I actually ran into a Kinky supporter I know causally while he was on the
was to the dry cleaner in his Suburban (just him, no other passengers).

I asked his what issue made him like Kinky.

His answer: "alternative fuels."

I asked, "anything else?"

He puzzled for a while (as the cool air conditioning escaped from his Suburban) and said, "I don't really know anything else about where he stands on the issues."

This is a guy who held a fundraiser for Kinky, too, so presumably he'd have more of an understanding of Kinky's positions than most of Kinky's know-nothing supporters.

Here's a Kinky quote on that topic which says a lot about Kinky's campaign and Kinky's deliberate evasiveness on important issues: "the thing that’s similar is that Arnold won when Californians decided to vote for an outsider.... He didn’t take a stand on hardly any issues."

I hope that Kinky's numbers keep falling (as well as Perry's & Strayhorn's).

5. I hope Kinky gets a humiliatingly low number of votes.
That will mean that enough people who were fooled by him in the first place and signed his petition figured him out before they made the mistake of voting for him.

8. If he loses, will Kinky leave “that worthless tar baby that is politics”
as he promised last time he ran for public office (as a Republican) and lost (link: http://www.ruminator.com/content/040501.html).

Between Kinky's "tar baby" comments and his comments that "listening to a Negro talking to himself" is punishment and "Negro is a charming word" (link: http://youtube.com/watch?v=C9mXTxEQI3A), I'm not suprised that Kinky is polling between 4% and 6% with likely voters in different minority groups (link: http://www.surveyusa.com/client/PollReport.aspx?g=5d90d44a-e155-4d92-8f08-14fd1696d602).

6. Guess what I saw for the 1st time yesterday?
Going to HEB, the person in front of me had anti-war stickers, an anti-W sticker and a frickin' K sticker. If that person had been going to HEB as well, I may have said something to them in the parking lot.
I just don't understand the rationale behind it...

9. I'm hoping this turns out like the time Marc Katz ran for Mayor
Edited on Wed Aug-16-06 09:04 PM by Melissa G
here in Austin. He ran a ridiculous amount of obnoxious commercials, spent a ridiculous amount of money and showed his less than charming self to the world as much as possible.. in the end he generated about 79 votes.
May the Kinkster's numbers look so pathetic...from my mouth to G~d's ears....

10. My Email to Ralph Blumenthal concerning his article:
Most of the article was about the race in district 22, but then he mentions the governors race. I felt like he needed an education about the race. Seemed just a little ill informed.

Chris Bell is the man who brought ethic charges against DeLay. He stood up to the members of both parties to help shine a light on DeLay's Culture of Corruption.

I think Chris Bell has better chances of winning than what you have suggested. I know a lot of Democrats are working very hard to make that happen.
He has an excellent platform and has been touring the state to inform the people here of a better way of life, then what we have seen since the Repubs have taken over and made a mess that only honest people will be able to change.

Here is some information to get you up to speed about the Governors race:
I inserted the data form your post to inform Blumenthal of his errors in his report

And as long as the EVM's don't switch our votes, then perhaps he WILL be our next Governor of Texas.....

Here's a link to the article, if anyone's interested!
