MY OH MY! This past Sunday Gene Seaman (R-Corpus Christi) feebly tried to swift boat Harvard educated combat veteran, Lt. Cmd. Juan Garcia. Talk about stupid.... Talk about backfire.
"He's not a fighter pilot," Seaman asserted. "He never flew jets, he flew P-3s. He is not a fighter pilot even though he takes his picture behind a jet."
Let's go straight to our men who have risked their lives to defend our country:
Pat Thurman, a Corpus resident, former P-3 pilot and current squadronmate of Garcia's, said "Every naval aviator who receives their wings at NAS Corpus Christi goes on to serve in the P-3 community. They are forwarded-deployed fighting the Global War on Terror right now. Nobody should question their commitment." Said James Allen, who flew both EA-6B's and P-3's and now serves as a reserve Instructor Pilot at NAS, "I'm proud of my service, and am shocked that a State Representative would question it." Jeff Griggs, another former squadronmate at NAS, said, "At a time when fewer elected officials than ever have spent meaningful time in the military, Juan graduated from Harvard Law School and then volunteered for naval aviation. He spent 13 years in, and still flys as a reservist. I can't believe someone would question his service."
That is a smart campaign strategy: insult the men and women who serve in the military.
Shame on you Mr. Seaman! How dare you question a man's 13 years of active duty protecting this country! And for what, for your puny little political career? Your lack of honor and respect repulses me.
Your desperate and transparent ploy shows us how scared your campaign is. After 4+ terms that is all you can talk about? Pathetic. Apparently your lack of record forces you to go negative....
From BOR
- Garcia spent 13 years on active duty as a naval aviator, after receiving his "Wings of Gold" here at NAS Corpus Christi.
- In each of five fleet tours, he was ranked as the #1 officer in his unit (see attached fitness reports).
- He has deployed to the Western Pacific, to the Persian Gulf twice, and served during the Kosovo conflict.
- He has logged 2,500 flight hours in military aircraft.
- His military awards include the Joint Commendation Medal, two Navy Commendation Medals, and two Navy Achievement Medals.
- During the last three months, while balancing his full-time profession as an attorney and campaigning across the four-county district, Garcia has flown over 60 pilot-training sorties.
STXC is first out the gate. Vince at Capitol Annex & Hal at Half Empty has more on Garcia's flying/military record (including pics of the P3 Orion). John Coby at Bay Area Houston talks about the connection to Bob "Swift Boat" Perry. LFT is putting their outrage to action by having an "Outreach By The Beach voter registration drive on August 19 at 8:00 am. To sign up, go to www.latinosfortexas.com/events."
Of course, Pink Dome has the funny including the infamous Viagra clip where Seaman imitates an erection on the House floor (no, I am not joking... although I wish I was).
This is the time to help Juan Garcia and his campaign. Juan is one of three of the 2006 TexRoots Endorsed Candidates (FAQ). I have spent a lot of time covering the campaign and getting to know this candidate. Not only is Juan Garcia a wonderful person and good family man, he is a thousand times more qualified and educated than the current office holder. He's the best and brightest. Let's help him into office.
