Guess who's coming to dinnner for a Ron Paul fundraiser?
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?

Ron Paul is hosting a BBQ on Sunday, August 20 at 1 p.m. at the Doyle Convention Center in Texas City and his "Surprise Special Guest" is likely to create quite a stir. Not sure who Dr. No has been hanging out with lately?

Here's a hint:

He joined Ron Paul in voting against:

o Hurricane Katrina Relief Funding (Only 11 members voted No.)

o Violence Against Women Act (Just 4 against this landmark law to protect more than half the voters.)

o Voting Rights Act

o Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act

o Campaign Finance Reform

Need another hint?

Neither of these long-serving Republicans stand much chance of getting through this election year with a little help from their Republican friends. In fact, Karl Rove told our mystery man never to darken the door of the White House again. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) said, "…he's running all over the country campaigning against Republicans and limiting his own effectiveness to near zero for his own district." Sound familiar?

Let's make sure TOM TANCREDO knows that his values (the kind that oppose any minimum wage) aren't Texas values, and his scare tactics and fear mongering (like trying to have an immigrant high school student whose impressive academic record was featured in the Denver Post deported) won't be tolerated here.

We've seen the destructive impact Tancredo's leadership has had on Colorado politics. (Sen. Salazar and other moderate Colorado leaders regularly get threats of violence from Tancredo's radical supporters.) This Thursday, let's make a coordinated effort to speak out against the radical politics Paul and Tancredo represent. Use your blog or write a letter to the editor (addresses attached) to stand up for Texas values!

2. Ron Paul is right half the time,...
I mean left! There's been a lot of posts here on DU about Ron Paul when he does something right. But his Libertarian background sure comes out when you bring in the Tancredo's of the world.

4. Ron Paul has always been and will always be conservative
He's a rare example of a politician whose views have been MODERATED by Libertarianism. I grew up in a district where he traded Congressional seats with Bob Gammage for several cycles. In those days, he was a traditional conservative, advocating for less regulation of small business and tort reform to benefit his OB/GYN practice.

Libertarians are on a different axis from liberals/conservatives - some views they hold support traditional liberal values, but usually, the party has successfully co-opted arch-conservatives who adopt only the part of the platform that allows them to keep the greedy bigot agenda going with a clearer conscience.

Specifically, why would you want to deport an alien laborer if you follow a free-market mindset? The usual Ayn Rand pseudo-intellectual John Galt self-serving deterministic bullshit just annoys me. I always like to point out that Ayn Rand is known for ratting out all of her friends to the House un-American Activities Committee. Libertarianism is largely the conservative version of the Peace Corps - change the world by screwing those without a voice or power basis.

5. I'm in his district too.
I have thanked him on a few occasions for standing up against the Republican party. His speech "Neo-Conned" is a GREAT READ!
