Mayor's daughter accused of drunken driving
The 17-year-old declined to take a Breathalyzer test; White says arrest may be a 'mistake'

Elena White, 17, daughter of Houston Mayor Bill White, was released from jail this morning.

Houston Mayor Bill White's teenage daughter was arrested late Monday after a Harris County deputy constable suspected she was driving while intoxicated, authorities said.

Elena Wells White, 17, was charged with DWI and spent several hours in jail before being released about 10 a.m. Tuesday after posting $500 bail — a standard amount for a first-time DWI arrest.

Her father said later that he had hired defense lawyer Rusty Hardin to represent his daughter, whom he called "no party animal."

"My daughter believes that she was not intoxicated and was not dangerous and wouldn't be impaired in her condition to drive," White said, calling her a "good kid" who has "always shot straight with me."

2. The Drunk 17 Year Old Believes She Was Not Intoxicated Who Gives A Shit
Why refuse the test? She was drunk and she knew it now her Daddy can get her cleared. Isn't the family values party just a hoot?

IMHO she looks BOMBED in the picture taken hours later.

3. White is actually a Democrat
Though Houston government is officially non-partisan.

Children of vast privilege are often arrogant regardless of their parents politics.

4. That is worth repeating ...
"Children of vast privilege are often arrogant regardless of their parents politics."

She needs to manage a bowling alley from 11PM - 6 AM. That would wash some of the arrogance out of her. ;)

5. I once got caught up in a contest of speed in Honolulu
I was young and on my Harley, there were these two attractive ladies in a Porsche. We were stopped by a motorcycle policeman. One of the women was the niece of the mayor and demanded to be taken downtown to the police station, really pissed the cop off. He asked me if I wanted to go too, 'No way!", replied I, which elicited a laugh and a ticket only for speeding from the guy.

This woman was so nasty to this cop it was unbelievable. police in Hawaii are a pretty mellow bunch or they used to be when I lived there thirty years ago. Point is, this woman was unbelievably nasty to this cop and we were GUILTY, no ifs, ands or buts about it.

6. In defense of the daughter
Those breath tests are faulty at best. What happened to innocent until proven guily? The criminal justice system has us brain washed. Remember, the State has the burden to show that she committed a crime. She will get her day in court. Until then feel free to bash away but I think she did the smart thing by not taking the test.

7. What's this little chickie doing even drinking at 17? Tsk Tsk!
Officials said the vehicle driven by Elena White was weaving in traffic without headlights about 11 p.m. when Precinct 5 Deputy Constable Nicholas Derkowski pulled her over in the 5800 block of Memorial.

After smelling alcohol coming from White's car, Derkowski asked that an officer trained in field-sobriety testing be sent to the scene, officials said.
