8. The last brunch was down south, too.
:)

Curra's wasn't really my idea, it was just suggested and went from there. Not that I have objections to it, mind you. ;)

4. I'll be there
So much to catch up on, re-re-re-districting, our statewide candidates are on fire, Ralph Reed lost his primary (ha ha), GW has succeeded in starting WWIII, the wing nuts eagerly await Armageddon and the rapture, Tom DeLay and Greg Abbott are still asses. And of course, winning our 1st amendment rights case.
:applause: It's been 5 long years but we finally got our justice.

Judge says city violated protestors' rights during Bush appearance
Police kept group away from Governor's Mansion in 2001.

The City of Austin violated the free speech and assembly rights of a group of protesters in 2001 when police kept them away from the Governor's Mansion during a visit by President Bush, a judge ruled Wednesday.

District Judge Gisela Triana ruled after a three-day trial that the city discriminated against members of the Democracy Coalition based on their opposition to Bush.

The protesters will not receive monetary damages, and Triana's ruling doesn't require police to make any changes, said Wayne Krause, a lawyer for the coalition.

But Jim Harrington, who works with Krause at the Texas Civil Rights Project and also represented the coalition, said he's relying on the city to prevent similar incidents in the future.

6. TCRP deserves all the credit
They're our watchdogs for civil rights in Texas. ACLU too, but TCRP does most of the litigation. When we lost the lower court ruling, most of us were pretty discouraged and thought it was over. But TCRP never let us give up, they were convinced we had a good case. They won one point in the 3rd court of appeals and that's what gave us the opportunity to come back and get a second trial.

This is exactly why you need good judges on that 3rd Court of Appeals, so let's keep in mind those 4 for the 3rd. Our great candidates Henson, Coronado, Brees and Buchanan. These courts do matter.

Wish more of Austin DUers would join us. You're really missing out on good company and great political conversation. Plus good food. Maybe you'll come out and join us next time. I hear there may be a pool party. Bet you want to come to that one.
