Concerning the Karla Barguiarena protestor story, on 59 South at Dunlavy Bridge, 06-27-06,
Wow, what a negatively biased piece. I sure thought any basic Editor with journalistic instincts could have caught that one before it hit the air, but many of us know all too well how media now aims for the hyped beyond truth, Faux “news” hysteria. The guys in your film crew were so nice too. Tell ‘em good job on gettin’ the low-down on them there trouble-makers (yep).
Try covering some facts and doing the story with just a touch of justice:
- We discourage everyone from displaying his/her signs when traffic makes it up close to the speed limit. We specifically told your film crew that (because of our concern not to cause a wreck). They took our comment reflecting our forethought and spit it back in our faces. But that’s ok, Progressives keep handy-wipes for just your type. I’ve never heard screeching tires below us. I’m not aware of any wrecks at all occurring while any of us have been out there with signs. The story that was allowed to air misled the unknowing public and I would submit that the story might just provoke a citizen with his now seemingly justified rage a step further by acting violently against us. You will hear from the police on our behalf if that occurs. That’s right. We aren’t the cause of the traffic. We targeted this area because of its traffic. After the many years of agonizing construction, 59 was left with a merge lane right under the Dunlavy bridge. It also slows down due to the brainiacs who placed the two major left lanes as off-ramps to the old Sears store at Fannin. It provides a free-for-all for those who just have to cut. And what does cutting do? It slows traffic. But don’t take my word for it. Try sending a worthy film crew out there to observe the truth or did your piece say and show exactly what you wanted it to (with no truth needed).
- We tried to explain to your film crew how many of us work for intolerant employers and how they might flex their muscle beyond any care of free speech to fire us for speaking out against this President. Gee, do we let this administration think America is content with its filth policy? Do all of us jump forward with glee to be interviewed (and unfairly become unemployed)? Or do we cautiously and respectfully decline an interview, yet still have the guts to hold signs against Bush and his administration? Well it turns out, it doesn’t matter because channel 11 (the obvious sister-station to Faux “news”) doesn’t know the true definition of “fair and balanced” either.
- Two months ago we counted responses for the first time. Within an hour and a half, we received 350 positive responses. Now, we’re counting close to 600 positive responses. 90% of all responses are positive: that includes residents walking by us to the nearby park, bicyclists, those driving over the bridge, all the many cars driving under it, police passing by, ambulances, Metro bus drivers, truckers, tow truck drivers, motorcyclists, etc… Your story was wholeheartedly misleading (like our President) by attempting to make us sound unwanted by anyone we come in contact with. Around half of those who participate in our Freeway Blogging live in the neighborhoods around the Dunlavy bridge. They are the individuals who started this over a year ago.

Why I do what I do (The letter your film crew would have received last week if they would have shown up like they had promised)
I’m out here to take part in a showing against Bush’s policies and his decision to initiate war(s). At the very least, I can stand out here and hold a sign to get the message out.
The true answer as to why anyone would be driven to stand with a political sign isn’t able to fit nicely into a sound bite. Bush received weeks of the lowest approval rating ever of 29%. I believe there is an awakening taking place where more and more people are realizing how the many differences in everyone’s lives as well as our environment are being targeted and tremendously hurt by the Bush policy being passed. The realization is sinking in that the once catchy or funny phrasing specifically chosen to sell the Bush policy actually discriminates and reverses many paramount aspects of America.
All of the reasons for initiating the war with Iraq have been proven false, even though the Republican entertainment show, Faux “news” and Limbaugh repeat it as fact (and are allowed to continue doing so). The last aspect Bush still pushes, of Saddam being a tyrant, has a glimmer of reason for war, yet it falls flat when looked in to. Most of us would agree that Saddam needed to be neutralized as a tyrant in order to help relieve his country’s misery, but the falsehood is how other tyrants around the world have NOT been removed (by this administration) while committing similar acts. That makes this reasoning a lie as well. The Project For a New American Century was drafted and implemented by the extremists Republicans. In being adopted as key Bush policy, it outlines measures to secure the oil fields of the Middle East in order to guarantee supply and dominating strength for America. I always remember that newspaper comic strip asking “ How did our oil get under their land?”. The point is there have been (and still are) many countries in need of America stepping in to deliver them from the same type of tyrant hell, yet this administration is uniquely focused on what its policy clearly states it would be focused on: Oil In The Middle East. Sure, this administration miscalculated the fatal price for oil, but by any respectful business standard, the Bush administration should have realized and reacted to its mistakes by making sound corrections; like concessions for substantial unilateral strategy and assistance, an actual plan for ANY stage of the occupation, accountability for our actions and accountability for the No-Bid Contracts hemorrhaging America’s taxes. But sadly, oil is still the goal (“we must stay the course”). To relinquish any control of Iraq would be to share in profits from any future oil pay-off, and that has no part in Bush’s adopted policy on securing oil.
Please understand that I am yelling as loud as I’m able to. My job would be in jeopardy if I were recognized in a TV interview. My wife is scared crazy about me going to jail from some desperately important protest or losing my job as it would cause us to lose our house and many other things. Is exercising our right and responsibility of speaking up really suppose to scare us to the point of not speaking at all? Some ignorant phrases yelled at us are to “go home” or to “get a job”. Like I said, some of us live near the Dunlavy bridge, so in essence, we are home. I work a 50-hour week. On protests out of town, I use up vacation time to be able to go. If I had any more time or money, I’d only be doing more of this. Our savings have been tapped out for years now in helping get out a message of change. I ask you, what is our life here in the United States of America worth if we can no longer question our politicians or government? Are we really just suppose to place additional blind faith in Bush when so much has already been proven against his “mandated” opinions? Is it right how most serious questions posed to this administration simply go unanswered with claims of it being a matter of National Security? The movie V for Vendetta does a good job of enlightening us to that grim scenario. And I tell you, if it comes to the point where protesting the government becomes illegal, we’re moving out of the country. The definition of Democracy will have been re-defined, as have many standard words by this administration. It will be another major indicator that America is in too much of a downward spiral to risk sticking around. This country won’t resemble anything our forefathers had in mind. The finishing touches on a complete fascist state will be in place.
The fascist state phrasing has always been some distant, scary extreme in history that brought some poor foreign country to its knees, but have you refreshed your memory of its definition? We’re actually there now. Bush has pushed for and implemented policy, which resembles each of the fourteen main indicators of Fascism. See attached copy.
Bush believers need to wake up.
Sincerely, Anonymous, but participating.
