"I like Fort Worth in June - how about you?"
"I like a Gershwin tune - how about you?"

Hey everybody! Sing along if you know the tune and, since you've taken the time to stop by, why, here are a few shots of Fort Worth taken on my visits home - please enjoy!

Downtown from the west:

Downtown from the east:

Ninth at Houston, with the Hilton in the center and Park Central on the far right:

New panther fountain outside the Park Central:

One of the fine new parking garages. Well, and it's such a great artsy-farsty shot too:

Looking north on Main Street. If you squint really hard you can just make out the county Courthouse:

Interior view of aforementioned Courthouse:

Downtown during the Main Street Arts festival. Yeah, the Tin Can Tower prior to it's facelift.

Performance Hall, with the awkward angels:

One of the last remaining bluff houses:

2. And we're actually having a spring,
this year. The weather has been great in ole' cow-town this year, and i plan on being at the convention center myself.

Peace!

3. My office is 34 floors above the Bass angels
downtown has a great vibe, and not many people know it but Ft. Worth is also home to three world class museums: the Amon Carter, the Kimbell, and the Modern, and Bass Performance Hall where the van Cliburn competition is held, as well as an Arboreum, a sprawling Japanese Tea Garden, a great zoo and regular cultural events like fund raising 10K's, charitable events, art fairs, festivals, parades.

I'm a Dallas boy but I think Ft. Worth has got it going on, culturally.

5. Sundance square is very cool,
the wife and i go there just to walk around. And up until a few years ago, Fort Worth, had the best live music club in the country downtown. It was called the Caravan Of Dreams, the Bass family owned it.

Some of the acts i've seen at COD's over the years: Little Feat, James McMurtury, Van Morrison, Delbert, the list goes on and on. But it was a great venue and we miss it, Bass Hall just isn't the same.

Peace!

6. While in college...
...I practically lived in the cultural district even though my apartment was in Arlington. I love the Kimbell.

8. Looking forward to sharing Cowtown with fellow DU-er's
myself.

I have to work a bunch of overtime this coming week...I need the $$ and I need the extra time to get aging issues off my desk before I take off for a few days of R & R in Kentucky. This greatly cramps my style re: the actual Convention. However, I can still meet up for meals, other gatherings and hopefully grab some of the activities on Saturday after I am through with work.

If anyone is interested in some sightseeing on Sunday afternoon, let me know.
Our museum district is awesome and all three museums are featuring their permanent collections currently.

Sundance Square at night is great!

I am on my way to the Flying Saucer to meet up with some friends for supper. Will check out the rooms.

See ya next week.

9. Tell me more about the Bluff House
Is it part of a park now? I'd love to go see it and take some pictures. It reminds me of an old stone mill that's part of a park in Little Rock, which I like to visit when I'm there.

11. I'm hoping they're still there.
The last time I saw them when I took these photos, there was an awful lot of construction nearby - the building of the new Tandy/Radio Shack campus immediately to the west. I'm also hoping they just made them a part of Heritage Park since they sit so close to the park itself. I can do a quick drive-by on Thursday to double-check and also draw a map...they're easy to find since they're directly behind the police station/parking garage.

12. One spot I forgot to point out!
The Flying Saucer makes an appearance in the 8th photo with the Tin Can Tower, the deep purple colored building in the lower left.

14. Expectations?
Like what? The Flying Saucer should have angels on it too? :P

The building is the oldest in downtown Fort Worth, with the front done in very nice brickwork.

And in the photo? That's what it looks like from the back...

21. That's threadjacking nirvana!
When you get the thread starter to actively participate in the jacking. It was a similar episode that caused Cat Woman to shriek "ASSHOLES" for the first time. Thus, the triad was born. :)
