1. Since the Lege is intent on destroying public education anyway
The law of diminishing returns will limit the amount of havoc these bible-thumping screwballs can cause. Pardon my cynicism, not in a good mood this AM.

2. You're right. Not good at all. But, there is a bright spot . . .
From a Houston Chronicle article . . .

And in a vote that could have a major impact on school finance, House Public Education Chairman Kent Grusendorf, R-Arlington, was defeated by Diane Patrick, a college professor who served on the Arlington school board.

Patrick was recruited by the education community to take on Grusendorf, who blamed school superintendents and teacher groups for killing his rewrite of education laws last year.

"The voters of the district have sent a message that it's important that all parties be at the table when decisions are being made and that they want new leadership," Patrick said.

Gov. Rick Perry campaigned several times for Grusendorf, who has served for 19 years.

This really is great news. I'm very involved in science education in Texas and I talked with a friend who is similarly involved in education in the Dallas area and he was practically jumping for joy today. This was an example of educators taking on someone they couldn't stand and getting him OUT OF THERE!

3. You are so right!
Kent was a festering sore on the posterior of the Texas Lege (ew, what a vile concept!). I'll not miss him, Austin will be cleaner for it.

I hadn't even heard about that. That's great. What party does she belong to, anyway?

6. I wrote to Grusendorf two months ago asking for his plan to
finance Texas schools. He never responded. Guess he was too busy campaigning to respond to constituents.

9. I saw this on the news Wednesday night
I'm in Grusendorf's area, so even if a dem doesn't make it in, I'm happy that he'll be gone. At least this woman is an educator.
