1. Actually...
Cuellar leads Rodriguez in congressional grudge match

03/08/2006

By T.A. BADGER / Associated Press

With thousands of votes yet to be counted in his home county, U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar held a small lead over former congressman Ciro Rodriguez early Wednesday in the Democratic primary in House District 28.

If early-voting results in Webb County are any guide, Cuellar will capture the vast majority of those outstanding ballots and avoid an April runoff election.

With 99 percent of the precincts reporting, Cuellar had 53 percent of the ballots tallied. Rodriguez, who narrowly lost to Cuellar in the 2004 primary in the South Texas district, had 41 percent. Victor Morales had 2,534 votes, or 6 percent.

Cuellar, a Laredoan who had trailed most of Tuesday night, took the lead when the early voting results in Webb County were tabulated. He won about 87 percent of those 9,388 votes.

3. According to the Texas SOS, one DINO up
Cuellar has apparently won. Here's the report:

5. The Democratic voters of the 28th district have spoken
Democracy isn't always a pretty thing.

6. Don't be sure of that yet...
There's something awful stinky going down in District 28.

7. It was a lot closer last time and
Rodriguez was unable to get the results overturned. It will be much harder this time with a wider margin.

8. Are we sure they were all Democrats?
Can anyone vote in either party's primary (but they can only vote in one primary)? Is it possible there was some crossover voting going on?

9. Yes, in Texas anyone can vote in the either party's primary
however you can only vote in one of the primary's. So, yes there could have been cross overs. But that would mean they wouldn't be allowed to vote for a Repub. And if they took their voter registration card it should have been stamped they voted in the Dem primary.

After checking the SOS results for the Repub side, no one is running for that seat.

It sure would be nice to know what happened!
