DMN article suggests Texas Democrats throwing in the towel for 2006 - WTF?
Edited on Tue Jan-03-06 08:51 PM by derby378
Last night, here in Dallas, we had our official Democratic kickoff at Poor David's Pub. We've got 93 candidates for local, state, and federal office and 250 candidates for precinct chair (including yours truly), which apparently is some sort of record for the Dallas County Democratic Party.

And so, this morning, we're treated to this in the Dallas Morning News, implying that Texas Democrats have already conceeded 2006:

Four years ago, Texas Democrats assembled a diverse team of high-profile candidates with fantasies of taking control of state politics. But voters rejected the party's "dream team" and swept Republicans into office.

Now it's apparent those Democratic hopes for revival have been deferred again. The Democrats who stepped up to challenge Republicans in the statewide races on Monday, the last day to get on the March primary ballot, are a collection of cash-strapped unknowns and unprovens.

Democratic contenders for comptroller and land commissioner didn't emerge until the final day, and the party didn't field anyone for some of the top judicial seats.

What's more, Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn's decision to skip the GOP primary to run as an independent for governor could result in the eventual Democratic nominee finishing third – or even fourth – this fall.

The low-key slate of Democratic candidates further signals a shift in Texas politics. The party, no longer competitive in statewide races, mostly is rebuilding instead of aggressively touting big names for the state's top jobs.

What a piece of crap "journalism" this is!

just for this bullshit alone:

Hey, Gromer (who TF names their kid 'Gromer', anyway? I suppose we'll have to blame your grandmother, as your dad apparently was 'Gromer' also, but that doesn't let your mother off the hook for going along with naming you Junior):

Push back from that vat of Kool-Aid you've been sucking from. There's a crisis of unparalled corruption among the Republicans in this state, and the coming tsunami is going to get you too if you don't take your lips off their ass.

6. Well, duh. Don't you see the real message in the article?

The DMN is letting all the good people of Dallas know that the Democrats are defeated before they've even begun to campaign. The DMN will keep flogging "The Democrats are losers" line over and over and over until Joe fence-sitter really believes that his vote will be wasted if he votes for a Democrat.

Message manipulation 101.

8. F the DMN
And all the special interests and corporations in the state that think only money counts. A plague on all their houses and their money too.

Obviously the writer is a pro-republican spin meister. He's probably being paid by the republican party to put down the Democratic party. Who is this a-hole to judge who a big name is to the voters.

10. Yep, I was there
TexasThoughtCriminal was there, too. I arrived around 7:15 and hung out with Tom and Jordana for a while. Got to see the speech by Will Pryor, who will now challenge Pete Sessions for his Congress seat without having to face Pauline Dixon first - I heard last night that she took herself out of the running.

11. Just another propaganda piece for the GOP
:puke::puke::puke::puke::puke::puke::puke:

Funny how they didn't mention the illegal redistricting done by the GOP, which just so happened to give them 5 extra seats.:eyes:

Republicans have dismissed their rivals' chances. Asked recently whether Democrats could win multiple House seats, Speaker Tom Craddick, R-Midland, smiled and said, "It's not going to happen."

Does Tom know something about the election that we don't know, perhaps a little vote rigging is already in place?

12. Keep in mind that the DMN
made chimp their Texan of the Year in 2003, Karl Rove in 2004, AND guess who made the top 10 list for 2005 choices??? TOM DELAY!! They decided against him, per the article, because the activity that had gotten him all his 2005 national attention "didn't happen in 2005". Um...yeah, that "activity" was fucking alleged ILLEGAL activity. NOT something Texans should be bragging about, and sure as hell not making someone a runner up for Texan of the Year.

DMN will moan and groan about all the bad stuff happening here in TX...crappy school funding, other social service funding cuts, and everything else that as happened under the GOP regime here in TX, but they lose all their balls/ovaries when it actually comes to Election Day and they automatically support/endorse the Repukes.

And they wonder WHY their subscription stats have dropped?? They are a right wing rag serving a county that went 49% Dem last year.

13. Drat on the DMN
I still remember back in '01 when the media conducted the recount of the Florida overvotes and undervotes, when almost every scenario showed that Gore truly prevailed in the number of votes cast, the DMN focused on the one or two scenarios (out of nine or ten, I believe) that favored Chimpy and put out a headline along the lines of "Bush still wins." Media whores extraordinaire at that paper; the Houston Chronicle isn't perfect, but is significantly better IMHO.

Good f-ing grief--if the Vice President and Editorial Page Editorial can't even spell "Granbury," there's no telling what else they don't know.

15. As one of the cash-strapped, unknown and unproven,
... I want to thank the DMN for making this campaign so dadgum much fun. They're making our coming victories that much sweeter. I hope they keep it up so we can have even more fun proving them wrong. As far as my own run is concerned, the best I can tell at this time is that Greg Abbott's fundraising edge over me is only 500 to 1. That won't be near enough to beat the rising tide of the people.
