DONATE TODAY
The Joe Barton Defense Fund
Thursday, November 17, 2005

Dear America,
I am asking you to join me in the fight of a lifetime. I am David Harris, Candidate for U.S. Congress in TX-06 and today I am asking you to help defend TX-06 by donating to my Joe Barton “Defense Fund” in order to keep Tom DeLay’s leading contributor to his defense fund, from getting re-elected in 2006. Barton personally contributed $10,000 to DeLay’s defense fund and got his oil and gas cronies to donate an additional $28,000.

Joe Barton is one of the most heavily funded and powerful members of Congress and has never served his constituents the way they deserve to be served. The only thing Joe Barton has served in his 20 years plus in office is big oil and industry. I am going to change that for residents of Texas Congressional District 6.

For those outside of Texas, you may ask yourself why contribute to a candidate in Texas when I don’t live there. Simply put, Barton sits as Chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and his position influences almost every aspect of your life and mine.

Here are some of his highlights:
Joe Barton was implicated in the complaint filed on June 15, 2004 by now gubernatorial candidate, Chris Bell against Tom DeLay in the matter of Westar Energy, Inc. Westar Energy and Tom DeLay were linked in the investigation because Westar contributed $25,000 to TRMPAC “in return for legislative assistance on the energy bill.” Barton was the Chairman of the Energy and Air Quality, a subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee which Barton now chairs.

On Wednesday September 7, Barton held a hearing called “Recovering from Katrina”. The hearing featured an impassioned video plea from Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour. After the hearing, Barton stated: "Whatever you need from the federal government, if you’ll work through them or directly with us—if it’s within this committee’s jurisdiction, we’ll do everything we can to make it happen sooner rather than later and bigger rather than smaller."

The very next day, Joe Barton became one of only eleven Representatives to vote against the Hurricane Katrina relief package.

Please help me defend TX 06 against the corporate politics of Joe Barton.
$25 buys you ten letters of inquiry to Barton’s office.

$50 buys you 6 calls an hour for 4 hours a day to Barton’s office to demand an explanation of his policies.

$100 buys our first printing of bumper stickers to annoy him all over the district: “Follow Dave”, “Support our Troops, Send a Veteran to Congress”, “Barton is Dirtier than DeLay’s Money” and, of course, “www.FOLLOWMETODC.com.

$200 buys our first t-shirt lot to wear and sell at events in the district. “Defend TX-06 in ‘06”, “FM2DC”, and “VOTE DAVE”.

$500 buys the Follow Me to DC campaign radio time to reach our rural areas of the district.

$1000 buys a billboard in Joe’s district to annoy him with his comment about me at a town hall meeting…Joe referred to me as the guy in the Army “costume”.
With your donation, you can help me achieve my vision for TX-06 and continue spreading the word of FOLLOW ME TO DC.
