State fires lawyer after story on Rove
http://www.statesman.com/metrostate/content/auto/epaper/editions/saturday/metro_state_34227885032410aa00db.html
A lawyer in the Texas secretary of state's office lost her job after she publicly cast doubt on presidential adviser Karl Rove's eligibility to vote in the state.

Scott Haywood, a spokesman for Secretary of State Roger Williams, confirmed to the Austin American-Statesman on Friday that lawyer Elizabeth Reyes no longer works in the elections division of Williams' agency.

Reyes told The Washington Post on Friday that she was fired Tuesday and told that she had violated the agency's press policy. A superior told her that the office was upset about the article in which her name appeared.

Williams has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Republicans, including President Bush, who relies heavily on Rove for political strategy.

Heil Roger Williams! I hope Elizabeth Reyes uses that law license to raise some legal stink. She didn't even know they were asking about Rove since they didn't use his name. He that should remain nameless.

points.

See "If it were not for Katrina and the Roberts hearings, this story ordinarily would be playing bigtime among bloggers. For those on the left, it has Karl Rove. For those on the right, this was a major instance of the Washington Post making some very foolish mistakes in their reporting, with some very serious consequences-- at least for Elizabeth Reyes."

DU being one of thise blogs, as this post has received just 4 comments and the new one in GDP about the same.

6. Just as we suspected, Rove called SOS before firing
I picked up the link from Sabra's LBN thread (good catch Sabra)
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x1787383

I knew it, I just knew it. Williams can deny all he wants, but the implication is clearly there. KKK Rove calls and then Reyes gets the ax.

Lawyer's firing came after call from Rove

Secretary of State Roger Williams said that he decided to dismiss the lawyer after talking with Rove but that the White House adviser didn't request that he do so.

"Absolutely not," said Williams, a longtime supporter of President Bush and a major GOP fundraiser.
