Looking for a contact at the Houston Red Cross.
Hi Everyone.

I'm driving down to Houston to volunteer at the Astrodome, but I've heard that they're getting so many volunteers that they're turning people away. However, I am a Red Cross trained disaster relief volunteer, and I'm sure they could use me to relieve other volunteers for a few days.

I'm looking for a phone number that gets me beyond the operator line at the Houston Red Cross. My local Red Cross here in Denver can't give me a phone number other than the main line. The problem is that the main line is swamped--the operators must be overwhelmed and all I get is recordings and various voice mails.

So does anyone have a friend or inside contact in the Red Cross? If you do, please either respond to this thread or pm me.

Thanks! :hi:

1. Here's a name...
Ask for Mary Souver from Michigan. She's a Red Cross Volunteer Co-coordinator from Michigan. She has a team of 6 volunteer co-coordinators and apparently is most often located in the Old Reliant Bldg. C Pavilion behind the Dome (or at least was there on Sunday. She was also helping indirectly with the Day Care Center being built in the new Reliant center second floor.

Sorry, but I don't have a phone number... Maybe if youcan get through the main number, you could ask for Mary.

2. Thanks, I found a contact.
DUers are an amazing group of people! I have been so impressed by who we know, what we know, and how willing we are to help one another. I really appreciate you're willingness to help me get to where I can be of the most use in Houston.

4. for anyone else who's looking
the switchboard at the George R. Brown is (713) 853-8385. You can call to sign up for shifts. I'm sure they have the Dome's switchboard number if you call there.

The main local Houston # for Red Cross is (713) 536-8300.
