During a press conference Wednesday, Waxahachie ISD officials apologized again to a student who was misidentified in the high school yearbook.
Superintendent Dr. James Wilcox read the letter of apology with Shadoyia Jones seated to his left. Shadoyia was identified in a photograph of the National Honor Society as "Black Girl," with Wilcox reiterating in his letter that the identification "was a poor choice to use as a placeholder for a student's name that was not known at the time, but it was not done maliciously nor was it meant to be printed."
The apology also was signed by school board president Dr. Joe Langley and high school principal Phil Trice, who were present at the conference. Seated also with Shadoyia were her mother, Judy Jones, and local NAACP president Betty Square Jefferson.
Wilcox said the district already has begun the process of replacing the current pages with reprints produced by Josten's, the yearbook printing company.
