Poll question: New, improved Randi KXEB sticker design!!
OK, folks, for all who are interested, I went back to the drawing board and tinkered with the Randi sticker for KXEB Air America. Here's the old design:

And here's the new, improved, hopefully easier to read version:

It's still a 10x3 sticker, but the radio insignia is more visible, an Air America logo has been inserted, and I made the frequency number a lot easier to read as well.

So...whaddaya think?

1. Randi has new Pictures. She hates that picture.

There are others, but I don't know where they're
posted right now. Good sticker, but maybe better
with a new picture.

2. Unfortunately...
I can't use that photo, either - can't find a version that doesn't have text all over it. If you can direct me to a clean version, I'll use the new photo. Thanks for the tip.

3. I cut and cropped. See what you can do.

Here's the one she uses on her web site.

I don't know what happened to the other new ones.
There's a part of her web site that says new photos,
but there are no images posted in it.

5. Why the angling text art on the KXEB?
Seems like it would be easier to read if it was straight across the sticker.

The angle bothers me and it's hard to read.

6. I'm not sure about the angled text
To me, it's kind of hard to read, so I think it will be even harder on a passing car. If you do the KXEB straight, you can probably use half the space vertically, and make the AAR symbol bigger as well.

And hopefully you can get one of the other pictures to work as well.

7. Thanks for the advice, guys
I'm taking all of your suggestions into account and will hopefully have the final product ready soon.

Looks like the angled logo is a no-go. Will rework into a different design.

8. Not to be a wet blanket, but you're using a lot of copyrighted material...
Edited on Fri Mar-25-05 09:04 AM by Richardo
Logos, images, slogans etc.

I don't know your relationship to the radio station, but be aware of the legalities of reproducing that material without permission. Especially if you intend to eventually sell these stickers.

Disclaimer: I'm no lawyer.

9. Right now, they have nothing that I'm aware of
No logo, no slogan, etc. Everything except the Randi pic and the AAR logo are strictly my creation. And Randi's producer sent me some new headshots to choose from.

If anyone has an e-mail for someone at Border Media that handles KXEB's publicity and such, that would be great. Don't want to step on anyone's toes - just want to help the station get off to a running start.

11. Here's my idea for a Randi sticker
I colorized her B&W picture - I'm proud of it. I just learned how to do that, so it was good practice for me.

13. Copyrighted AAR material
Bob Proud , VP of operations of Border Media owner of KXEB said that tshirts and bumber stickers "are in the works"- when he spoke at the AAR welcome party.

I have all of the "fan " designs posted on my AAR Dallas web page - and people are printing and using them for their own personal use until the radio station and the network provide Dallas fans with items.

They do want us to promote the station but I also dont want to break any copyright rules-or make the station unhappy.

Hopefully we will get legal promotional material soon....

14. I am troubled
I worked in advertising for years and I am a little troubled by the grassroots marketing efforts that I have seen here. Don't misunderstand me. I admire and share the spirit in which they were intended. Like everyone else I want AAR to succeed in North Texas. What is really needed is first rate profession marketing materials. Marketing the station with armature material implies that the station is a third rate armature operation. IT IS NOT!

Border Media and AAR could be doing a lot more to support the launch of this station. I don't understand why AAR doesn't sell localized bumper stickers on their web page.

The AAR station is like a breath of fresh air. I would like to see a few blue sky AAR billboards.

It might be helpful to setup a friends of 910 KXEB grassroots organization. A vital friends organization might make the station more attractive to advertisers.

15. There already is one
Nancy Cunningham has organized an AAR Meetup - check this thread and others.

And yes, I would love to see billboards for KXEB. Where the hell are they, guys?

As for advertising, I understand your concern - but someone needs to advertise the station. It may be that KXEB is ready to go with stickers and such, and if so, I'll drop my sticker ideas - unless they don't mind some "official" bootlegs.

16. Air America Radio Dallas Meetup and Yahoo discussion group
We do have a local group that supports and promotes Air America Radio in Dallas-

We also like to discuss issues heard discussed on AAR - I do have a number of stickers linked on the site that have been created to promote the station-

I do not know why KXEB didn't doesn't have tshirts and bumper stickers OR A WEB SITE ..but none of that keeps us from being thrilled that liberal/ progressive radio is heard in DALLLAS -

We even are getting together to screen the Left of the Dial -HBO documentary and having a 1 year birthday party !

All things Air America Dallas can be found here :

17. The official Air America Radio stickers suck
I have one for my local station, and it sucks.

It has a picture of Al Franken (too big).
The station numbers 1200 / 1430 AM (too small).
Al Franken's name (way too big).
And they say "Air America Radio" (way too small).
It says "Progressive talk" (way, WAY too small).

They should say Air America Radio . Com , IMHO.

That way, people would also know they can look it up on the web.

Yes, they have Al Franken.

And this is The Official Al Franken Millennium.

We get it.

Now, we need to make it a priority that people actually find Air America Radio.

My local station was mailing them out for free.

I would love a new-and-improved Air America bumper sticker myself.

Theirs sucks.
