Why don't you check how he voted on the Bankruptcy bill? He is just another DLC dork.

3. he is hardly
my favorite Dem by any means. However, he is 1 million times better than another Southern Republican. I also think he stands a good chance of winning.

4. I'm still thinking of it
I'm still not a huge Ford fan and shame on him if he did vote for that bill (and Harry Reid and anyone else who voted for it). One reason that makes me want to vote for him over Kurita is when I heard Kurita on "The Round Table" and she said it would be a waste of time to investigate the DSM. *sigh* At least Ford did sign the Conyers petition at the very beginning.

8. Any candidate that calls for DSM now risks losing....
the rural, moderate, and/or crossover vote
-a voting block which will be absolutely necessary to win.

10. He wasn't even in office when NAFTA was passed
NAFTA was signed by President Clinton in 1994. Ford didn't take office until 1997.

Please get your facts straight.

11. Ford support of NAFTA fast track
'In case you missed it: Fast track would give the President the authority to negotiate NAFTA-like trade agreements with other countries and ram them through Congress in an up or down vote, with virtually no debate. '
<snip>
'Tennessee Rep. Harold Ford, a new recruit to the anti-labor "New Democrat Coalition," came out for fast track near the end of the battle by claiming that it was good for the transportation workers in his Memphis district. Probably the trucking companies, railroads, airlines, and barge companies have added an extra shift to keep up with all the goods now pouring in from Mexico. '

15. Thanks for this. I wrote to Zach Wamp (ugh) and specifically
mentioned to him that no president, no matter party affiliation, should have the power to negotiate trade agreements without full debate and an informed vote of Congress. He basically wrote back and told me to piss off. I didn't realize that Ford voted for this crap.

12. Ford made last-minute switch on CAFTA
"I've always believed individual rights are a big thing...but I find value in the court's decision. As long as people are compensated fairly, I can appreciate the decision. Certain areas in our state are crying for development. If this decision helps -- it's a positive."
-Harold Ford, Teddy Bart's Rountable

(In the end, he finally sucummed to progressive pressure
and voted against CAFTA)

13. Rebuff
You are not giving him credit for his real record. You say in regard to CAFTA, he finally voted against it due to pressure from liberals. That is not correct.

Here is what the Congressman said in regards to CAFTA: http://haroldfordjr2006.blogspot.com/2005/07/congressman-harold-ford-jr-stands-up.html

He voted against it because he felt it was the right thing to do. And you can see via his press release on CAFTA, he states he wasn't in Congress, but probably would have voted for it. Nevertheless, he didn't vote for it or CAFTA.

Also, you act as if he is no friend to labor, but that is not true. Look at his labor ratings. They are great. Heck, the AFL-CIO even recently endorsed him and his campaign: http://haroldfordjr2006.blogspot.com/2005/08/harold-ford-jr-recieves-afl-cio.html

Now, in regards to the KELO decesion. I believe you have bought into the Republican spin and lies about Ford's position on property owner's rights. His quote from the radio interview was taken out of context. Soon there after he went lenghts to set the record straight.

Read his real stance on eminent domain: http://haroldfordjr2006.blogspot.com/2005/07/property-owners-rights-top-priority.html

Those are the facts.

14. How big of an issue will race be?
Edited on Sun Sep-25-05 10:03 PM by V. Kid
'Cause I'm quite sure the Repubes will use it.

Also what are the demographics of his district? (Like is it majority black, white?).

17. Unfortunately, I'm sad to say that race will probably be an issue
and that is disgusting. Also at issue will be the fact that he's ticking off many members of "the base" in my area, SE TN. I would think that the racial makeup of his district won't matter in a statewide race for a Senate seat.

I would be thrilled to campaign for him if he were in the mold of a Maxine Waters, a Barbara Lee, a John Conyers, a Kendrick Meek, a John Lewis, Alcee Hastings, Holmes-Norton, Tubbs-Jones, you know the members of the CBC who never cease to fight for the working class, justice and truth, but he won't make that step to do that.
