Bush shows signs of ex-alcoholism - headline of a LTTE in
the Chattanooga Times/Free Press today which begins:

In my 60 years of treating patients I have learned that certain personality features of an ex-alcoholic persist, whether the individual becomes a pastor or a president.

The next part mentions that the compulsitivty that started the drinking can switch to a different mode like "doing good" or "promoting democracy".

The final paragraph: Meanwhile, the individual continues unable to recognize or acknowledge the trauma his neglect may be inflicting upon those in his care.

Somehow I think that this physician will rile up the Bush**bots by mentioning that he's delusional and incapable in his role as Great Leader.

OTOH, I :applause: this gent.

4. Do copyright rules apply to LTTEs?
I would give you a link if I could. This online paper requires registration and then it's very difficult to find articles, etc. there.

Here's the middle paragraph:

The compulsivity that provoked the initial drinking is often switched to a different mode. For example, "doing good," "promoting democracy."

The initial post and this addition is the entire letter - short and to the point.

People do it all the time. Post a link or cut and paste an entire letter. If you are a fast typist you can put the whole thing in from hardcopy (hint, hint).

On-line registration is easily circumvented with www.bugmenot.com
I saved it in my toolbar and then just enter the weblink. They pop up a fake username, email, password, or whatever is needed to read the site without giving away personal info. I highly recommend it!

7. Thanks, but it's not just the registration it's actually trying to find
articles online that are in the print edition. Anyway, the entire letter is short and sweet:

Bush shows signs of ex-alcoholism

In my 60 years of treating patients I have learned that certain personality features of an ex-alcoholic persist, whether the individual becomes a pastor or a president.

The compulsivity that provoked the initial drinking is often switched to a different mode. For example, "doing good," "promoting democracy."

8. Yes and no
To answer your express question, yes, copyright laws apply to LTTEs.

Note that all copyright laws apply, including the doctrine of Fair Use. So to answer your implied question, "will I get in trouble by posting the entirety of the letter?" the answer, as always, is "it depends." Fair Use allows reasonable copying for purposes of education and criticism, which is what we do here, and it helps that you are not trying to make a profit by copying, or prevent the author from making a profit.

I miss the old Chattanooga Times. Unfortunately, it was merged with the old Chattanooga New-Free Press ( Which is the wrong way to use a hyphen because the name meant 'free of news, which the paper usually was. The old Free-Press was the Cahttanooga high society, grip and grin photograph paper which printed biblical passages as editorials and called communists "the Reds".) My Republican dad used to get so annoyed every morning because the Times was the morning paper (the Free-Press was delivered in the afternoon) so he had to read the "liberal news" while eating breakfast.

The online version of this paper is a nasty joke. I hope that I didn't step on any toes by typing the entire letter.

Lee Anderson, the old buzzard who edits the Free Press side of the paper, is losing it and he has a particularly inflammatory and just downright wrong passage is his editorial today so I must write another letter and make some more phone calls!
