Tribes thankful to Venezuela for heating help
Feb 10, 2008 - 04:05:25 CST
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - American Indians are again receiving heating help from the CITGO oil company that's owned by Venezuela.

Several tribes on Thursday honored the president of CITGO Petroleum, Alejandro Granado, and Citizens Energy Corp. Chairman Joseph P. Kennedy II with music and dance at a Rapid City event.

It is the second year CITGO has provided energy assistance for Indians.

CITGO initially provided discounted home heating oil and has expanded its program to include direct financial assistance. This year, that amounts to $21 million to 220 tribal communities in 13 states, according to CITGO.

The impact of higher fuel costs on low-income Americans is being ignored, said Kennedy, a nephew of President John F. Kennedy and the son of Robert Kennedy.

3. And that help is very important to them
Especially the old ones that have only SS income and would face a miserable winter without it.
Here in New Mexico Propane gas is $3.88 a gallon...a dollar nore a gallon than gas fir the car,,,many I know are forced to burn wood to keep warm because they just cannot afford both food and heat.

7. Maybe the Saudi dictators could do something comparable instead of beheading their citizens
I find it always interesting how vicious some comments here are regarding the government of Venezuela and how little I read about the vicious and extremist Saudi regime.

It's a paradox for sure.

9. It's important to point out that these tribal leaders, and, in the cases of Democratic Congressmen
who got discounted winter oil for their financially hard-pressed constituents, went FIRST to American-based oil companies in good faith, explained their needs and begged for assistance, and were simply blown off, and sent packing. It was AFTER this blunt rejection that arrangements were made with Venezuela.

If anyone asserts it happened otherwise, you have only to do a quick check on the internetS to get the information they had asked for help right here at home FIRST, where Bush told Americans that Americans look after the poor because of their innate generosity (that's why we don't need any government programs to help the poor, in his view), and this is where they were all told to get stuffed.
