Why can't SD be like Colorado?
Edited on Sun Jan-30-05 01:23 PM by sd_UDO
Colorado now has a Democratic legislature, despite voting for Bush.

What are the rules of politics in most places? Lots of disagreement, lots of money to win? 2 rules. Daschle spent more than Thune and lost, but he did a lot of GOOD.

Politics should be about good. Not about conceding counties, cities and states to the Elephants.

State Democratic leadership in Sioux Falls does not do a good job of running 105 candidates for State House and State Senate. Consequently, the Legislature is run more like a high school prom committee.

If Party leadership doesn't have a clue on how to field 105 candidates instead of 70, then should we send them money? Someone called me and asked me for money--I told them NO, I don't agree with the way the State Party is run.

Look at the law---the State Party runs County Central Committees, Precinct Committeeman, Precinct Committeewoman--its all there in the law. Yet the imagination and power is not being exercised.

Maybe grass roots has to happen outside of the party. I was so tempted to switch to Independent, but didn't.

The Democratic Party now is Barbara Boxer and the 31 minority Congressmen and women who voted NOT to seat the Republican electors
in Ohio. Plus Howard Dean.

Even in Iraq and Afganistan, they can vote DIRECTLY for President.
We can only vote for Electors here! I guess our government trusts the Iraqi and Afghan people more than the US people.

A nonprofit quasi Democratic/Jeffersonian organization could have elections as often as we'd like. We could elect Presidents and Governors and Senators in every county if we'd like to. These would be organization offices, not public offices (such as we voted for in 2002 and 2004).

Remember the Genie (Robin Williams) at the end of Aladdin? (Rent it or buy it!) When he escaped from the bottle, he said--"Freedom!"

Maybe if we stepped outside of the current election system and had nonprofit organization elections in South Dakota, 3 things would happen:

1. We'd feel the FREEDOM and joy of winning, and doing something!
2. Others would probably get inspired that we didn't just "moan and bitch and wait for another 2 years"
3. Our nonprofit Jeffersonian group could some cool and exciting projects that would help people, innovate and create jobs!

Take a look at my blog if you're interested!
