Save Richland County's transportation system
It's official. Richland County's website gives the date of the public hearing on the proposal to put the option of a 1% sales tax on the ballot in November as July 15th at 6pm in the county offices on Harden St, Columbia. This tax is to pay for massive improvements to the county's roads and for extensions to bike paths, greenways and the bus system. The stakes are enormous. If the tax does not pass, the bus system is unlikely to survive beyond next year and existing roads will become more and more gridlocked as Columbia's population continues to grow.

It is highly likely that some sort of "Vote yes to amendment x" campaign will be launched at the meeting. I once again urge all DUers concerned about Columbia's transportation future to be there.
