Why Obama will win South Carolina
By PHIL NOBLE - Guest Columnist

Most pundits and even some senior Democratic Party officials in our state have said Sen. Barack Obama doesn’t have a prayer of carrying South Carolina in the fall election. He will.

History is, admittedly, on the side of the doubters. Since 1960, the only Democrat to carry South Carolina was Jimmy Carter from neighboring Georgia in 1976. In the seven presidential contests since then, Democrats have averaged only 40 percent of the vote. John Kerry got 41 percent.

But predicting the future based solely on the past is like trying to steer a car by looking backwards through the rearview mirror — often with the predictable results........................

1. I'll be working to help make it happen
SC Democratic Primaries were awesome! And our Obama GOTV trippled our Vote Goal.
Meeting this week after primary to start mapping out a coordinated effort for County and all local candidates for GOTV efforts all the way till November.

4. Charleston
We don't know if the campaign is going to set up an office here, but we're going to run a "real" campaign, even if we have to do it ourselves.

5. Sounds great
Not sure I would be able to make it down from Rock Hill mid week. But would love to hear how you guys are organizing.

We have been successful in the past here in York County - but want to get things started earlier because people are ready to take action NOW! Congratulations on all your hard work in Charleston.
